ACE FREHLEY REUNITES WITH KEN KELLY FOR 'SPACE INVADER' COVER ART
 

Founding KISS guitarist and 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Ace Frehley has tapped long time friend and artist Ken Kelly to create the album cover for his upcoming LP SPACE INVADER, due out July 7th. Kelly, who created the iconic cover art for two of KISS's best selling LPS, Destroyer (1976) and Love Gun (1977), says,  "It was very exciting when I was approached with the idea of doing an album cover for Ace."

 

Ken Kelly is also widely known for his paintings in the sword and sorcery and heroic fantasy sub genres, most notably for the Conan the Barbarian novels. He continues, "I had spoken to Ace on a few occasions about the possibility, so I was delighted when it actually happened."

Ace Frehley himself comments, 'I've been talking with Ken Kelly since 2007 about painting a CD Cover for me and it has finally happened! I couldn't be more excited about the new Space Invader cover and the music behind it is also going to rock your world!'

With nearly 35 years between projects, KISS fans will surely be excited about this long-time duo working together again. Kelly concludes, "I am very pleased with the results and proud to play a part of Ace's continuing successful career!"

 

ACE FREHLEY will release SPACE INVADER, his first new solo album in five years, via SPV/Steamhammer in Europe on July 7th, 2014. The album will include at least nine brand new original songs as well as a cover of Steve Miller's 'The Joker.' 

Widely known as the original 'Space Ace" and founding guitarist for 16 cumulative years (over 2 tenures) of the multi platinum selling rock band KISS, Frehley is demonstrably the most popular original member.  In addition to having the best selling solo album career (vintage or current) among the original foursome, Frehley's self titled Ace Frehley, released in 1978, went on to sell over one million copies, producing the only Top 40 single, 'New York Groove,' from any of the legendary KISS solo albums; (peaking at #13).   The massive hit was most recently featured in an episode of cult show Entourage and was also KISS' second best selling download in 2012, besting such KISS Army anthems as 'I Was Made For Lovin' You,' 'Beth' and 'Calling Dr. Love' even after 36 years.
 
Since departing from KISS, Frehley went on to release four more solo albums and one live EP including his most recent effort, Anomaly in 2009, which debuted at #27 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and received a welcoming response among critics. "'Anomaly' shows why many rock and metal guitarists list 'Space Ace' as a prime six-string influence," said Rolling Stone.

In 2012/2013, The Who embarked on the Quadrophenia and More Tour, performing their landmark rock opera in its entirety, marking the 40^th anniversary of the original 1973 release of this double-album masterpiece. The critically acclaimed and highly successful tour closed at London's Wembley Arena, with the cameras rolling, to record the closing night of this historic anniversary tour.

 

Filmed on July 8, 2013, QUADROPHENIA: LIVE IN LONDON features The Who in peak form, performing Quadrophenia from front to back, in its entirety, plus a special set of some of their all-time greatest hits. The film captures the band's dynamic performance in front of their hometown crowd and features blistering performances of 'The Real Me,' 'The Punk And The Godfather,' 'Doctor Jimmy' and a powerful performance of 'Love Reign O'er Me.' With HD screen backdrops, archival footage and today's advanced technology in sound, QUADROPHENIA: LIVE IN LONDON reunites The Who with bandmates John Entwistle, for '5:15,' and Keith Moon for his signature song 'Bell Boy.' In addition to their performance of Quadrophenia, the band tear through classic tracks such as 'Pinball Wizard,' 'Who Are You,' 'You Better You Bet,' 'Baba O'Riley,' 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and 'Tea & Theatre,' from their 2006 release Endless Wire,' with the intensity and power only The Who can conjure.

 

QUADROPHENIA: LIVE IN LONDON will be available in various configurations including an expanded 5-Disc Limited Collector's Edition Metal Box which includes the High Definition Blu-Ray' and standard DVD of the concert film, both in 5.1 Surround Sound audio; a two-CD soundtrack of the show; and for the first time, a 5.1 Surround Sound mix of the entire 1973 album release of Quadrophenia on a Blu-Ray Audio'.  Extras include a 6' Mod Headlight sticker, a Mod Headlight button, and a 32-page book with liner notes and photos, all housed in a 10' metal container embossed with the movie-inspired, iconic, Mod bullseye logo painted on a Vespa SG scooter headlight.

Based around the story of Jimmy ' double-album masterpiece Quadrophenia tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The project was intended to reflect the four characters of The Who and features some of Townshend's most inspired, personal song-writing - way ahead of its time in scope and purpose and is one of the most widely recognized albums of The Who's career because of its classic depiction of mod culture, its renowned imagery and the magnificent music and powerful performances.  Newly envisioned by Roger Daltrey, the concert film combines archival footage of The Who and images of historical events that have rocked Jimmy's world over the past 40 years giving this magnum opus an enlightened modern twist.

WHO:            

The powerful new rock trio CALIFORNIA BREED which features legendary vocalist-bassist GLENN HUGHES (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath), drummer extraordinaire JASON BONHAM (Led Zeppelin) and 23-year-old newcomer guitarist-singer-songwriter ANDREW WATT will have their first-ever U.S. performance in Los Angeles on WEDNESDAY, MAY 28 at the Whisky A Go Go.

Mixing massive riffs, gutsy vocals and gale force rhythms, the hard-hitting trio's first single 'Sweet Tea' is a Top 10 hit on the Classic Rock chart. Legendary record cover artist Ioannis (Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, King Crimson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Weir, Allman Brothers Band, Dream Theater) will be joining forces with The Wizards of Winter to produce cover artwork for their upcoming album to be released later this year. Ioannis will also design merchandise and the tour art for their upcoming 2014 schedule.
Says Ioannis, "I think The Wizards of Winter is an incredibly talented group of individuals and it will be cool to work on their holiday project, so I am really looking forward to doing this."  Plans are also in discussion for additional ventures to be announced later this year.

The Wizards of Winter, the prog-metal-meets-classical rock band that has been hard at work recording their second release, are excited to be working with this iconic artist for the design of their album cover artwork. Ioannis has created the covers of over 170 albums, with his art firmly rooted in fantasy and surrealism. The currently untitled album, produced by Tommy Farese of Trans-Siberian Orchestra fame, promises to continue the band's style of integrating elements of hard rock and classical influences into a distinctive blend of original compositions. San Francisco, CA - Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, bassist/composer Erik Scott will be releasing his sophomore CD 'And The Earth Bleeds' on May 8, 2014. Best known for his work with Alice Cooper, Sonia Dada, and Flo & Eddie, Erik's newest release takes the listener on an aural voyage through ethereal and otherworldly musical landscapes. 'And The Earth Bleeds' adds some vocals, gypsy violins, Celtic melodies, a dash of steel guitar, a wisp of French horns and other surprises to the soulful and mystic brew of his first 'solo' album, 'Other Planets'. And Erik continues to stretch convention with his melodic playing and bass-generated SFX.

Says Erik, "There are people who carefully plan out the direction of their music...smart. Then there's me. I pretty much have no idea at the start. I get in the music room and start messing around on something; bass guitar, chord changes on the keyboard, or a beat on the beat programmer. If I like something, it just starts to build. The lyrics on the five songs with lyrics on this CD...well, they happened later, when it seemed that the music alone wasn't saying all that I wanted."
Among the eclectic mix, there is a definite Scottish influence in the music – especially on the tracks "Free", "The Battle For Neverland" and "Run". Erik explains, "I went to the Scottish Highlands and Edinburgh last August 2013. I had completely written and recorded 'Free' as an instrumental, when I was reminded of the price some people have paid for their freedom, in this case William Wallace of Scotland. It seemed that I needed to say a few words...not a lot...just a few. After returning from the Highlands, I found the trip had helped me complete the Scottish inspired pieces. The melody, originally played on bass, took on such a haunting beauty when played on the veille (medieval violin) by Shira Kammen, that I decided it was the music to which I should write the lyrics that became 'Free'."

"Free" is inspired by, and dedicated to William Wallace. "The Battle For Neverland" is inspired by J.M. Barrie, the Scottish creator of 'Peter Pan', and "Run" is decidedly influenced by traditional Celtic melodies. Erik Scott's first real break in the music business came in mid-1974 when he was hired to play bass for former Turtles/Frank Zappa's Mothers members Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan). Erik recalls, "We toured and recorded constantly for about three years, making the 'Illegal, Immoral and Fattening' and 'Moving Targets' records. Flo and Eddie shows were known for alot of great hit songs from their career as 'The Turtles', cool stuff from the Flo & Eddie albums, some stuff from the Zappa years, and their usually profane and hysterical tirades about the excesses of pop stars and the music business in general. That's how I first met Alice, onstage with Keith Moon at the Troubadour in LA singing 'Happy Together' (Turtles Hit) and 'Wooly Bully'. We went out in '75 with Jefferson Starship, whose 'Red Octopus' album went to #1 five different times, and in '76 we were out with the Doobie Brothers, whose 'Takin' It to The Streets' was also #1. In between we did a tour with Steven Stills, and gigs with Fleetwood Mac, among others. These tours, and the albums with Flo & Eddie, still stick in my memory."

In 1980, Erik began working with the legendary Alice Cooper after a short stint with drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Erik Scott, first hired as bass player on the 'Flush The Fashion' tour, later became a co-writer on 'Special Forces' and co-producer as well on 'Zipper Catches Skin', touring extensively behind the 'Special Forces' album.
After Alice, Erik spent some years as a session player in LA, with artists as diverse as Kim Carnes, Peter McIan, Franne Golde, Tonio K, and others. He also found time to co-write and play on the title song from Pops Staples' 'Father Father' album, which won the Grammy as Best Contemporary Blues album in 1994. He also played on the title song from Mavis Staples' album 'Have A Little Faith", which was recognized by the WC Foundation in the Gospel-Blues category for the year 2004.

In 1989, Erik formed the rock band Signal and released the album 'Loud and Clear' on EMI Records. The album was largely lost in a regime change at EMI USA, but gathered acclaim as an AOR melodic rock hit internationally…a bbit of a classic actually. Three commemorative packages were released overseas: Japan, France (Axe-Killer Records), and South Korea. 'Loud and Clear' made many 1989 year end Top Ten and Top Twenty charts for AOR and melodic rock.
In the early 90's Scott became an original member of the band Sonia Dada. The group featured eight members: three African-American soul singers and five European-American players with backgrounds ranging from rock, folk, jam, psychedelic, jazz and R&B, all of which brewed up quite a genre-busting stew. Erik spent 15 years, and recorded 6 albums with the ensemble, "where a diversity and collision of styles awakened all kinds of possibilities in me, probably helping to inspire the unconventionality of my solo work".
Although Erik is originally known for his work in the rock field, he has recently pursued a path in 'world' music. In 2009, he released the critically acclaimed solo album 'Other Planets'. John Diliberto, producer/host of the radio show 'Echoes', is quoted: "To say that his solo debut 'Other Planets' is a bass guitar album is to miss what a powerful, cinematic release he's created. It's an album that is more Pink Floyd than Jaco Pastorius."

And now, Erik has taken his enchanting and mystical music a step further with the release of 'And The Earth Bleeds'. He explains, "Again, no plan... I premeditated nothing. The melodic nature of it, any chilled out nature of much of it, came mostly from the fact that the music was birthed in my studio with just me. Rock music generally happens when you have more than one person...a gang...a rock gang. These solo projects come more from a melodic and chilled-out rhythmic place, and a desire to experiment with the potential of the electric bass as a major melodic voice, in combination with violin, steel guitar, and other less-expected partners."
In closing Erik has this to impart to his fans and listeners, "I guess I hope that listeners appreciate the soulfulness, nuanced performances, and spacey honesty that probably leaks all over the stuff."
