SYMPHONY X Visit The 'Underworld' July 24

New Jersey’s progressive metal masters SYMPHONY X are set to release their brand new, ninth studio album called Underworld on July 24th via Nuclear Blast Records.
 
SYMPHONY X have triumphed, creating a panoramic “album rock” experience in an era cursed with diminishing attention spans. “This new one is about the song, really crafting each one on its own, to be as strong as it could be” says Michael Romeo, chief writer in the band, and proprietor of The Dungeon, the tricked-out studio in which the album was crafted, newly equipped with the latest in technology required to execute the band’s famous symphonic and orchestrated touches.
 
“Musically, Underworld has things reminiscent of the bands previous albums but this one definitely has its own individuality,” stated Michael. “Every element added was in service of the song, so the album flows and becomes a total listening experience from start to finish. Every song is to-the-point and fine-tuned, with us paying a lot of attention to the hooks, voices, riffs, and keeping the interest and the energy high for the entire record. It is heavy and aggressive as fuck when it needs to be, yet soaring and emotional at other times. I think the balance is just right. It had to have all the elements of what we normally would do, just tweaked up a notch and really fine-tuned. You know, industry people have talked about how we’ll never see a complete album again, and that idea. I wanted to defend the reputation of the album, and really try to make Underworld worth listening to as a whole record. It’s what I love about great individual songs, but still an album experience. I don’t want to sound like I’m preaching, but it was a point we wanted to make. It was about the progression of the whole record. It speeds up here and then it dips down here. It all makes sense together, it all works together and it all flows together.”
 
Although Underworld is not a concept album, Michael stated “like the last couple of records, there’s a theme that carries through, without it being storytelling. We try to find something to key in on and get the juices flowing, and here the goal was to find something a little dark but with emotional content. I started looking at Dante, and Orpheus in the underworld, where he’s going to go to Hades or hell to save this girl. So there’s the theme of going to hell and back for something or someone you care about.” Heavily inspired by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, Underworld draws on the themes from Divine Comedy most notably the part on Inferno. As homage to Dante’s use of the number 3 and its multiples, the band utilizes this motif in its music either in a lyrical or melodic context. The first song on the album is a three syllable, three note melodic phrase, and in the verses there are three references to three songs on the bands third album, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy. “There’s cool shit like this all over the record,” Romeo reports.
 
For Underworld’s cover art, SYMPHONY X went with their established illustrator Warren Flanagan (Watchmen, The Incredible Hulk, 2012), who similarly tapped into the “secret knowledge” vibe Michael and band embedded in the record. “Warren went with the masks, similar to the first record,” explains Romeo. “But when I discussed with him Dante and the underworld, he did his own research and designed a little symbol for each of the nine circles of hell. So there are these little geometric symbols that mean something. That’s just what he does. He gets in there and finds these things that maybe no one really besides us knows what it means and yet it has meaning.”

The melodic metal band PYRAMAZE just released the music video for the title track of their new album "Disciples of the Sun" online. The video was directed by Thomas Tjander [The Haunted, In Flames, Jorn] for Acromacy Media and the editing & VFX was made by Craig Gowans for 12inchmedia.com. "Disciples of the Sun" will be released on May 22nd in Europe and on May 26th in North America through Inner Wound Recordings.

New York, NY (May 15, 2015) ' Two of the biggest forces in rock radio of the past decade have announced the formation of a new band, SAINT ASONIA. The debut single, 'Better Place' is available now on iTunes and can be streamed on Spotify. 
With 26 top ten rock singles and seventeen #1 hit songs between them, Adam Gontier, former lead singer of Three Days Grace, and Mike Mushok, lead guitarist of Staind, have already been referred as a 'supergroup,' but Gontier is quick to dismiss the moniker.

'Truth is we're more like refugees that just really hit it off creatively,' he laughs. Adds Mushok, 'I was looking for a project to do while Staind is on hiatus and the opportunity to work with Adam on writing and recording new music was something I just couldn't pass up.' 
Rounding out the band are drummer Rich Beddoe (formerly of Finger Eleven) and bassist/background vocalist Corey Lowery (Dark New Day, Stereomud, Eye Empire).

Produced by Johnny K. (Sevendust, Disturbed, Megadeth), SAINT ASONIA is currently finishing its debut full-length album, to be released this summer.  The band will also be hitting the road shortly for several concerts across North America.

Valerie are gearing up to release their brand new studio album "Young Hunger" through Demon Doll Records; a smashing follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut from 2012. Following the underground success of their previous effort, Valerie once again teamed up with producer Bård Torstensen of Swedish-grammy award winning band Clawfinger and legendary producer Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant, Europe). Beau Hill himself contacted the band after hearing "Night After Night" on on a local radio station in Texas, exclaiming that "there is some serious musical brainpower in this one", and offered to do the mixing on their sophomore release.

All-Female British Hard Rock Icons GIRLSCHOOL Release Two Vintage Concert Performances!
 
Los Angeles, CA - From the vault of one of the most respected and groundbreaking British hard rock outfits to emerge from the NWOBHM scene, the legendary Girlschool, comes two never before released concert recordings now ready to be shared with the world courtesy of Deadline Music. Both shows present powerhouse performances by the original, classic Girlschool line-up featuring guitarist/vocalist Kim McAuliffe, bassist Enid Williams, drummer Denise Dufort, and the inimitable lead vocalist/guitarist, the late Kelly Johnson.
 
First up, London 1980, released on CD, demonstrates the awesome power of this band in a live setting before their hometown audience, as they perform cuts from their recently released and soon to be classic debut studio album Demolition including “Emergency” and “Nothing To Lose,” plus their explosive cover of The Gun’s “Race With The Devil!” Then, Glasgow 1982 picks up where the London show left off, featuring high octane performances of tracks from both 1981’s Hit and Run and 1982’s Screaming Blue Murder including “The Hunter,” “Live With Me” and more! These performances eventually lead to the ladies’ first U.S. tour later in 1982 opening for Iron Maiden and Scorpions, and establishing a devout fanbase in the States. This historic performance is available on both CD and in a special limited edition purple vinyl pressing.
 
Girlschool are still going strong performing and recording with lead guitarist Jackie Chambers (who replaces Kelly Johnson). Frontiers Music Srl, is pleased to announce the upcoming live release by the legendary rock group YES, entitled LIKE IT IS -  YES AT THE MESA ARTS CENTER on July 3rd in Europe and July 10th in North America.
 
Available in 2CD/DVD, Blu-ray and Digital formats, with a later release planned on vinyl too, this new live album, which follows a similar path to the successful release “Like It Is – Yes at the Bristol Hippodrome”, sees two of the band’s signature albums, 1971’s FRAGILE, and 1972’s CLOSE TO THE EDGE performed live in their entirety on the band’s 2014 world tour.
 
Recorded live on Tuesday August 12th, 2014 at the Ikeda Theater in Mesa, AZ, featuring Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White Geoff Downes and Jon Davison, offers an exciting take on two amazing pieces of music which include live staples such as “Roundabout”, “Heart Of The Sunrise”, “And You and I” and the epic “Close to the Edge”.
 
“That evening in Mesa, Arizona was a great one. The audience was fantastic; they loved the music and really made it a very special night for us. And we were in top form. The music sounded great and we could have played all night,” says YES co-founder and bassist, Chris Squire. “ ‘Like It Is’ brings the magic and wonderful music of that evening to fans everywhere, and we’re sure they’ll enjoy listening to it as much as we did performing it.”
 
This new live release comes as YES continues one of its most fertile musical periods in their nearly five decade history and is a perfect companion piece to the other retrospective live release,  “Like it Is – Yes at the Bristol Hippodrome”, which included amazing renditions of “Going for the One” and “The Yes Album”. Formed in 1968, the band has endured for nearly five decades and remains one of the most popular live touring acts in rock n roll. They have recently announced their US tour with label-mates TOTO. The 'King of the Blues' guitarist and singer, BB King, has died aged 89, his lawyer says.
King, known for his hits Lucille, Sweet Black Angel and Rock Me Baby, died in his sleep in Las Vegas.
Born in Mississippi, King began performing in the 1940s. He went on to influence a generation of musicians, working with Eric Clapton and U2.
Once ranked as the third greatest guitarist of all time, he had been suffering ill health in recent months.
He was recently taken to hospital with a diabetes-related illness.
A former farmhand, King was awarded his 15th Grammy award in 2009 for his album One Kind Favor.
He was also inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rolling Stone magazine placed him behind only Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Until recently, King performed in at least 100 concerts a year.

AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler & Joe Perry Win Emmy For 'Dream On: Stories of Boston's Strongest'

For the first time in their illustrious career, AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry can add an Emmy to the long list of awards and accolades they've received.  Tyler and Perry were among the producers honored by the Sports Emmys last week (May 5) for their work on 2014's E:60 "Dream On: Stories of Boston's Strongest," which was directed by AEROSMITH associate Casey Tebo.

E:60 won Sports Emmys for Open/Tease and Edited Sports Special for "Dream On: Stories of Boston's Strongest" featuring a stirring performance by AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of their iconic anthem "Dream On" with the Southern California Children's Chorus, which was recorded last April in Los Angeles.  "Dream On (Boston Strong 2014)"was released as a single via iTunes, the day after the band surprised the audience at The Forum, in Inglewood, CA (July 30, 2014) by bringing the Southern California Children's Chorus onstage to perform the song.

For the special, Tyler and Perry joined E:60 in paying tribute to Boston, the birthplace of the band, with a moving rendition of "Dream On"--an anthem of hope, remembering the victims while honoring the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings.  The award was one of 11 ESPN won that night--tying the network's highest total ever--at the annual event held for the 36th year by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

"Dream On (Boston Strong 2014)"debuted Tuesday, April 15 on "E:60 Presents Dream On: Stories from Boston's Strongest," a special hour dedicated to the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings.  The show presented five stories of survivors, narrated by celebrity voices of Boston At 2:49 PM, on April 15, 2013, as scores of spectators cheered on the Boston Marathon runners approaching the finish line, two hand-made bombs exploded.  In a split second, the lives of hundreds of people were forever changed. E:60 presented a special program remembering the lives lost and paying tribute to those who survived, their journeys of perseverance, courage, strength and love in the past twelve months.

METAL ALLEGIANCE Signs With Nuclear Blast Entertainment; Debut Album This Fall

After successful appearances at sea on MOT'RHEAD's Mot'rboat and Shiprocked as well as an unforgettable show before NAMM in Anaheim this past January, METAL ALLEGIANCE has signed their first-ever record deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The world-wide deal stems from the popular musical collective uniting to write and record original material this past winter. Brought together by METAL ALLEGIANCE principal partner Mark Menghi, the original material came together from the creative minds of David Ellefson of MEGADETH, Mike Portnoy of THE WINERY DOGS and Alex Skolnick from TESTAMENT alongside Menghi. The four writers then reached out through their metal rolodexes to a diverse lineup of performers, each adding their own personal musical stamp to the collection of nine original songs. More information on the performers and individual track lineups will be released in the near future. The debut album from METAL ALLEGIANCE is slated for release this fall.
 
Nuclear Blast Entertainment President Monte Conner offered up his label as the home for METAL ALLEGIANCE after several meetings. Upon hearing the demos and seeing the list of performers, he felt it was something he wanted to be a part of.
 
'I am incredibly fortunate to be able to work with legendary musicians and personal heroes like David Ellefson, Alex Skolnick and Mike Portnoy, as well as METAL ALLEGIANCE founder Mark Menghi. This long awaited album shows that the BULLETBOYS are unstoppable with their grinding hard rock. Singer Marq Torien's vocals hit every note with the power that is his trademark. 'Can't wait for our fans to hear this album. I put my heart and soul into this music,' exclaims lead singer Marq Torien. 'This album has sick peaks and valleys ... it is NOT a linear album. A straight out labor of love that I've dedicated to my amazing father, all of our Families and our unfaltering BULLETBOYS fans and friends.'

The band consists of founding member Marq Torien (Vocals/Lead Guitar), Nick Rozz (Guitar), Chad MacDonald (Bass) and Shawn Duncan (Drums). All members pouring their heart and soul into the group's first album of original material since 2009. ELEFANTE was produced by Matt Thorne (Trapt/Disturbed), Marq Torien and engineered by Ryan Greene (Alice Cooper/Lita Ford/Cheap Trick/Usher). The great Anthony Focx (Miley Cyrus/Aerosmith/Santana/Buckcherry) mastered this new work of art. 'Working with the Bulletboys was an amazing experience,' explains Ryan Greene. 'Most singers, from back in the 80's, were pretty good but I will tell you Marq knocked it out of the park on this record. His power and passion was second to none and he can sing in tune! JOE SATRIANI's 'Shockwave Supernova' To Explode July 24

Legendary guitarist, JOE SATRIANI, announces plans to release his 15th solo studio album, Shockwave Supernova, on 24th July, making him one of the first to utilise the new "Friday, Global Release Day" for music. 
It would be easy to call Shockwave Supernova a "masterpiece" or "the last word on guitar" from the world’s most commercially successful solo guitar performer. Satch, however, sees it much more personally. He has consistently advanced the artistry of the instrument; an effort he dedicated himself to on 18th September, 1970, the day his idol Jimi Hendrix died.
 
Recorded late last year at Skywalker Sound in Lucas Valley, CA, Satriani assembled the dynamic trio of world-class musicians who had recently been part of his global tour; renowned keyboardist and guitarist Mike Keneally, a veteran of several Satch outings and recordings; along with drumming whiz Marco Minnemann and bass extraordinaire Bryan Beller. "I couldn’t have asked for a better band to help bring these songs to life," says Satriani.
The album also sees Satriani once again joining forces co-producer and engineer John Cuniberti. Satch and Cuniberti share production on Shockwave Supernova, as they have on numerous albums – their shared history dates back to the guitar star’s 1986 debut album, Not Of This Earth and its follow-up, the platinum-selling, critically acclaimed, Surfing with the Alien.

Minnemann and Beller handle the bulk of Shockwave Supernova’s rhythmic duties, with the exception of four cuts – the driving "Keep On Movin’," full of wondrous Satch guitar wizardry and Keneally’s playful piano, "In My Pocket," a deliciously greasy, souped-up take on Swing, along with "Crazy Joey" (a deliriously effervescent romp) and "Scarborough Stomp" (a relentless upbeat rocker) – find Satriani joined by another powerhouse rhythm section: the esteemed drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (whose work includes the likes of Frank Zappa, Sting, Paul Simon, among others) and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney (whose resume includes Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion and Rob Zombie, to name a few).
Recently, during the final performance of his two-year Unstoppable Momentum tour, Satriani had an epiphany; he found himself, "playing the guitar with my teeth an awful lot. I thought, ‘Why are you doing this?’ It’s as if something else, or somebody else, was driving me to do it." Satriani seized upon this moment of self-realisation as the springboard and creative centre for his alter ego "Shockwave Supernova," the outlandish and extroverted ‘performance side’ of the normally shy and reserved guitar virtuoso. With this new persona as partner, Satriani launched his wildly ambitious 15th solo album, Shockwave Supernova.
 
 
In a creative and engaging alternative venture, Satriani, a lifelong science fiction fan, has reached out to the future, through the medium of animation. Finally recognizing the on-stage symmetry with his alter ego allowed Satriani to also take a risk on this particular style of storytelling. He says, "Guitarist Ned Evett and I have created an animated series called Crystal Planet. The actual Crystal Planet is our very own Earth, set billions of years in the future. The hero of the show uses music generated by a unique electric guitar to travel through time while the show’s characters struggle to preserve the future and past of humankind."  More information on Crystal Planet and how and where fans will view the series will be coming shortly.

As was previously announced, Satriani and Steve Vai, will perform at a third benefit concert in support of music industry veteran and their good friend, Cliff Cultreri. "A Benefit for Cliff III" is set for Friday, June 12th at 8pm at Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. This event will feature performances by Satriani and Vai, as well as special guests, Animals As Leaders. In addition, Satriani and Vai, along with other artists, have graciously donated various items to be auctioned at the event. Among these items are autographed guitars as well as a chance to join Satriani’s "G4 Camp" taking place June 28 – July 2 in Cambria, CA.
