And finally, one of the finest songwriters in the Rock genre, Jim Peterik, looks at his two recent releases, the Peterik-Scherer album 'Risk Everything', and a career-spanning package from his original band the Ides of March, who celebrate their 50th anniversary with the 'Last Band Standing' box set.

Axel celebrated his 25th Anniversary last year with an all-star concert event featuring guests from throughout his esteemed career.
From his early days in Steeler, to his early solo career with Jeff Scott Soto, through to today, continuing on with Johnny Gioeli.
The concert takes a cool snapshot of that entire span in chronological order.
Unfortunately it starts with the worst segment of the night, the Steeler reunion, all mainly due to the rough and largely unlikable vocalist Peter Burtz.
Thankfully we go from the basement to the penthouse after just 4 tracks, when Rob Rock jumps onboard for Nasty Reputation, the title track of the album he fronted.
Then it’s on to Jeff Scott Soto, who slays the crowd as usual with Warrior and Fool Fool.

The current ARP band is then ushered to the stage to deliver some Axel goodness. 3 of the next 5 tunes are over 9 minutes in length and one is 7. It’s Axel at his epic best, with Johnny singing his heart out. Strong As A Rock and Long Way To Go are both high energy delights and a 9 minute Hey Hey Now Now is the very definition of epic.
30 minutes of crossover tracks and live favourites follow until a few more covers appear – Montrose’s Rock The Nation is short, sharp and to the point; Ronnie Atkins joins in for Black Night; Tush features John Lawton and a 14 minute Mistreated features Doogie White, Tony Carey and Johnny Gioeli.
Graham Bonnet, Michael Voss, Doogie White tear down Since You’ve Been Gone, with Long Live Rock n Roll and completely over the top Smoke On The Water close out this truly epic event.

3CDs or DVDs might not be enough for flag waving ARP fan club members, but for the general populace, it’s more than enough and a fitting high quality way to pay tribute to one of Germany’s finest ever guitarists and metal legends.
Truly one for the fans here.

Ozzy Osbourne/Firewind guitarist Gus G reveals teaser clip, artwork and tracklisting for his second solo album; 'Brand New Revolution'

Check out an exclusive teaser clip featuring a snippet from opening track 'The Quest' here: https://youtu.be/bv8FSY_xnJs

After having recently announced his upcoming sophomore solo album release 'Brand New Revolution' via Century Media Records in Europe, Australia and South America, Dismanic / eOne in North America and King Records in Japan, Ozzy Osbourne / Firewind guitarist GUS G. is now ready to launch a few more details about it.

'Brand New Revolution' will be released in Europe on July 24, 2015 and comes with artwork (which can be seen above!) once again created by Gustavo Sazes / www.abstrata.net, who already worked with GUS G. on his debut release 'I Am The Fire', and also took care of artwork duties by bands such as Arch Enemy, Kamelot and also Firewind in the past.

The album features guest vocal appearances by Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, Talisman), Elize Ryd (Amaranthe), Jacob Bunton (Adler, Lynam) and Mats Lev'n (Candlemass, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen).

10. If It Ends Today (feat. Mats Levin)
11. Generation G (feat. Jeff Scott Soto)
12. The Demon Inside (feat. Mats Levin)

GUS G. checked in with the following comment about the album: 'As I'm putting the final touches on 'Brand New Revolution', I wanted to give out a bit about the new music. 'The Quest" is the only instrumental of the album and it's a heavy, high energy, technical track. The rest of the album once again features collaborations with some awesome singers / songwriters such as the legendary Jeff Scott Soto, Mats Lev'n, Jacob Bunton and the awesome Elize Ryd of Amaranthe. I feel the album as a whole has many influences, from classic Hard Rock / Metal to more modern and current sounds. Stay tuned as more info will be revealed in the coming days'.

'Brand New Revolution' was recorded with Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax, Steel Panther, etc.) and mixed by Mike Fraser (Metallica, AC/DC, Van Halen, Aerosmith, etc.). Just as on 'I Am The Fire', the core of GUS G.'s recording group consisted of Jo Nunez (Firewind) on drums and Marty O' Brien (Lita Ford band) on bass.

GUS G. has recently also announced a few more first summer live-dates to launch 'Brand New Revolution'.

With change comes controversy. But for those that have followed vocalist Jeff Scott Soto’s vast and acclaimed career, you should not only expect change, but embrace it!
After all, you know it’s coming…and if one particular project is not a personal home run, then you know something else is just around the corner.
As most should know I’m a long time dedicated JSS fan and he’s a good friend. But that shouldn’t mean praise comes easily.
If anything I’m harder on those I respect most, as I expect the best every time.
It’s the same with many artists. Most of the time I feel as if these great artists deliver – because they are the best of the best. But none of them (despite the occasional suggestion otherwise!) have been immune from criticism. That includes JSS. But not on this occasion!

I’ve read a great many comments on this album from others. Some people don’t like the heavier, modern style. Some like heavy stuff, but aren’t gelling with this one. Others have longed for Jeff to do something truly ear shattering and are eating this album up with fervor.
And then there’s those that have followed Jeff through everything he has done and just appreciate whatever comes next – from the AOR of Prism; to the anthemic groove infused Talisman years; the straight ahead melodic hard rock of Lost In The Translation and Damage Control; to the pure stadium AOR bliss of W.E.T and Eyes; even through the Prince inspired soul/funk of Love Parade and the mature singer/songwriter pop of Beautiful Mess; released under the JSS moniker.
I could go on, but you get the point – Jeff Scott Soto never stands still and rarely repeats himself.
So Inside The Vertigo is just another chapter in an astounding career.

Such as the Beautiful Mess album went under the JSS moniker to differentiate from his normal known range of styles, so to has this album been singled out as a new band, so the name Soto has been adopted.

Soto’s “debut” is a truly accomplished piece of work. Yes, it’s super heavy as far as JSS fans are used to; yes, it’s far more contemporary than the classic rock we’re more used to hearing, but this set of songs packs a powerful punch.
I’d describe this as a mood album. It’s a time and place album for when you are fired up or want to get fired up. It’s a great record for driving to, but Soto accepts no responsibility for any fines incurred.
For those afraid of the production effects and the in your face, tuned down metal riffing, I suggest you concentrate on nothing but the vocal. Because as hard hitting as it is, at the heart of all JSS material lays vocal melody and hooks.
You can dress it up as metal, funk, pop or rock…but Soto always sounds melodic and it’s a distinct voice I can listen to anytime, anywhere.

This album runs the gamut of metal stylings. There’s the punchy riff driven Final Say, which while heavy, eases the listener into the album.
The heavy groove and cynical lyric of The Fall is impossibly catchy, even with a short chorus.
Then there’s the bombastic drum and rhythm of Wrath, which hook and vocal harmony wise isn’t that far removed from a classic JSS sound.
Break is intense. Dark, slow to mid-tempo…and intense (did I mention that already?). But still, the chorus is right there and filled with the same kind of melodies of Lost In The Translation – just darker and heavier.
Narcissistically Yours is a grinding, effects filled groovy rocker with another scathing lyric. And the vocals are huge.
End Of Days has to be everyone’s favourite song. This truly epic masterpiece winds its way through 9 minutes of atmospheric mood, to hard hitting angst, slow glorious guitar work before turning into a double time shred styled metal anthem half way through before once again changing direction for the last 2 minutes, bringing in a children’s choir to add to the already amazing atmosphere of this song.
Inside The Vertigo is another classic JSS style hard rocker, once again, just heavier and modernized.
The awesome metal ballad When I'm Older should really be all over rock radio, but you know that’s never going to happen. It’s classic JSS – especially vocal wise. This is a good entry point for those unsure about this album.
Closing the album is a four pack of metal goodness. Trance is super intense; Jealousy gets even heavier and a little faster; Karma's Kiss is slow and dark while Fall To Pieces ends the album on a somewhat simpler, but no less impressive hard rocking note.

Production on Inside The Vertigo is fabulous. It’s a huge wall of sound. The consistency of the songs on this record makes it one of Jeff Scot Soto’s finest works to date.
It really is a monster of a record and the intensity, the immense guitar work from Jorge Salan and groove from the rhythm section (David Z - bass and Edu Cominato - drums) cannot be understated. This is one talented group of musicians.
This is a true album. Not a group of songs cobbled together. This is a work of art.
That said, it certainly won’t be for everyone, but long time Soto fans should embrace this with enthusiasm as a few new fans come to admire one of the best rock n roll frontmen ever.

AXEL RUDI PELL's 25th Anniversary Show 'Magic Moments' Due on CD/DVD

Friday, February 20, 2015
Categories:

- "Magic Moments - 25th Anniversary Special Show" - the anniversary concert out in April -

It was a hot summer night and the beach was burning Wrong song, wrong place! But the weather gods smiled on Axel Rudi Pell on that memorable magic evening of July 11th 2014:  There had been a severe weather alert, but in the end the floodgates of heaven opened only during the last song of his regular set, the Rainbow classic “Long Live Rock´n´Roll“. “That was Ronnie James Dio crying from above,” promoter Horst E. Franz speculated while bidding his farewells to the almost 15.000 drenched- but-happy fans at the festival site.

Three hours before the sun went down, creating a beautiful atmosphere at the ´Bang Your Head´ festival in Balingen/Germany, where Axel Rudi Pell celebrated his 25th anniversary as a solo artist with a once-in-a-life-time performance. The CDs and DVDs document a show that is unlikely to ever be seen again in this constellation - a special present the protagonist had worked hard for. It took almost a year to set everything up: “The actual organisation started in the summer of 2014 when the promoter and I went public with the idea of this event,” Axel tells with obvious relief. He´s still happy about how things have turned out. With a little help from his friends at his booking agency, the Bochum guitarist set up an extraordinary line-up. “It was mostly all about personal contacts”, because after more than 30 years in the business Axel Rudi Pell is not only well-known, but also well-respected in the worldwide rock community, so the affix “& Friends“ is not one of those usual exaggerations. Almost all of his favoured candidates agreed on this one July date.

As Axel is an early bird, the whole organisation was fairly easy. Of course there were rehearsals, but only one day before the show. Over fifty minutes worth of footage from those remarkable sessions are featured on the DVD and Blu-ray versions of this package. During those sessions Axel realized that something unique was happening. “Everybody involved had a blast and was right on track,” he remembers. Unfortunately, Doogie White had a prior engagement with Michael Schenker on that rehearsal day, but was replaced with ARP frontman Johnny Gioeli. And except for Charlie Huhn, who had already agreed to play a gig in the USA with his current band Foghat, Axel´s former singers turned out in full force: Rob Rock (1991) and Jeff Scott Soto (1991-1997) together with long-time ARP drummer Joerg Michael (until 1998) took the stage by storm after a historical four-song Steeler reunion at the beginning of the show.
Axel´s current line-up put on a best-of show with a blisteringly atmospheric version of the Neil Young classic “Hey Hey My My“ and a few epic ARP classics like “Mystica“, “The Masquerade Ball“, “Casbah“ and “Into The Storm“. You could feel those goose bumps spring up, and the climax was still to come: after a furioso battle between drum gods Vinny Appice and Bobby Rondinelli, a long list of rock legends took the Balingen stage: stepping in for Joe Lynn Turner, who was tied up with business affairs, Pretty Maids frontman Ronnie Atkins performed a superb version of Deep Purple´s “Black Night“, including audience sing along. Then John Lawton, the former voice of Uriah Heep, demonstrated why he still deserves a lot of “Sympathy“ (Uriah Heep), and he was still looking for some “Tush“ (ZZ Top). When ex-Rainbow keyboard player Tony Carey joined in for an emotional “Mistreated“, the now available Doogie White and Johnny Gioeli set the roof on fire. Graham Bonnet, another Rainbow veteran from the glorious “Down To Earth“ era, remembered the good old times with “Since You Been Gone“ and, of course, the aforementioned “Long Live Rock´n´Roll“. At the end of those three hours plus all guests (and friends!) gathered on stage for the grand finale “Smoke On The Water“. A legendary evening drew to a spectacular close. Are you happy, Axel? “Of course! I could have played at least for another hour.” Did anything go wrong? Notthing, but there was no way we could have prevented those long change-overs in between.“ But at least the weather gods smiled

Full bio below...

Exclusive track by track comments from Jeff Scott Soto - and check out the exclusive 1 minute soundbytes while you read through.

1- Final Say - My good friend and brilliant guitarist/producer of Adrenaline Mob came to me with this blistering track that I knew was the perfect album opener for the album! He plays all instruments on the entire track as well, I did all the vocals. The lyrics are exactly what you think they're about, being pushed, bullied and taken advantage on for the last time...and doing something about it!

2- The Fall - The 1st single from the album, it was written with a young unknown bassist Tony Dickinson who I know from my touring with Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Tony is one of the backup musicians who knows the entire show if someone has an emergency to go home or becomes too sick to do the tour, he would step into the tour. Tony plays all instruments on the song except lead guitar which is done by another young sensation, Chris Feener. The lyrics are much the same as Final Say, being bullied by a schoolmate, boss or even family member...and seeking your revenge.

3- Wrath - Written with my dear friend Gus G, after working with him on a song for his 1st solo album, I asked him to give me something heavy for my next album. Gus plays all bass and guitar on this song, Edu Cominato covers the drums. As you can see a theme forming here, the lyrics are again a reminder that one has been pushed to the corner for too long and will seek retribution.

4- Break - This was written with another backup musician I know through Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Connor Engstrom, who is a backup musician for the band. Connor is a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist who gave me the music to this song based on my description of what I was looking for musically. He plays all music except Tony Dickinson is on bass and special guest Casey Grillo (Kamelot) on drums. The lyrics are about deceived and lied to over and over...about not putting up with the abuse anymore and breaking away.

5- Narcissistically Yours - Co-written and recorded by Brazilian guitarist Leo Mancini (Tempestt/Shaman) and Edu Cominato, bass by Henrique Baboom, Leo is a dear friend and colleague I have known and worked with for many years. The lyrics are about being cheated on and lied to in a relationship by a person who loves themselves  and thinks they could get away with it because they feel everyone wants them.

6- End Of Days - Another co-written with Connor Engstrom, this was one of the hardest songs I have ever written but one of the proudest moments of my career! I asked Connor to write me an epic, movie soundtrack, modern day Bohemian Rhapsody type song. He turned in the song exactly as you hear it, without vocals of course...this is when I had to take this 9 minute piece of music and create lyrics and melodies. Connor handles all the music except Tony Dickinson is on bass, Casey Grillo is on drums and I covered all the vocals except the children's choir, who is made up of my 2 nieces and stepdaughter. The lyrics are about the state of the world we live in, the future that we are stepping into from global warming to terrorism. I got my inspiration from watching Terminator 2 one afternoon at home and the lyrics wrote themselves!

7- Inside The Vertigo - Co-written and performed by Gary Schutt, I asked Gary if he had something that sounded futuristic and modern yet heavy and moody. Edu handles the drums and I do all vocals. The lyrics are also about escaping a life where you're constantly being told what to do, about sneaking away into the vertigo as an alternate way of life.

8- When I'm Older - Co-written with my drummer Edu Cominato, he turned in to me probably the closest thing to a ballad on the album, but I didn't want a standard ballad, it had to be something uptempo and not cheesy. I have been listening to a lot of Shinedown and Foo Fighters the past years so in creating the melodies, I wrote them based on being able to hear this sung by either band. When I was sitting around trying to come up with the lyrics, my wife Elena was scribbling some words and ideas reminding me she is quite creative with poems and thoughts. I asked her to send me what she was working on and it coincidentally matched what I was doing so I merged our lyrics together and fit them into the song.

9- Trance - This was a last minute addition to the album, Edu Cominato and his good friend and guitarist Hugo Mariutti (Angra, Shaman) gave to me to check out. I loved the modern day Sabbath vibe it gave off and came up with the lyrics and melodies with ease! Edu is on drums and loops here, Hugo on guitars, Henrique Baboom on bass, Jorge Salan on lead guitar and me on all vocals. The lyrics are about being so enamored with someone that you would do anything including give your life for them.

10- Jealousy - This one was co-written with BJ, my keyboard/rhythm guitarist. From the opening guitar riff on, I knew this was something I was missing and needed for the album. BJ does all bass and guitars, Leo Mancini is on lead guitar and Edu on drums. To color it up before we went to mix, I asked Connor Engstrom to create some orchestrations and the song was complete. Lyrically its exactly what the title states, but its about someone who lives their lives jealous of others instead of finding their own way and happiness.

11- Karma's Kiss - For years, I have been wanting and trying to collaborate with my old friend Jason Bieler of Saigon Kick as well, he handled guitar duties and the 1st ever Talisman tour back in 1990. I explained it had to be very heavy and he sent me one of the heaviest riffs I have ever heard from him! Jason handles all guitar duties, Saigon Kick bassist Chris McLernon handles the bass and Edu is on drums. The lyrics this time, I didn't want to be angry or negative, I wanted to see if I could write something positive and uplifting within the context of a dark and heavy song. It's about escaping inside the vertigo as well, but not running from anything, more about seeing life in a good light.

12- Fall To Pieces - Co-written and performed by my guitarist Jorge Salan, this was another Salan classic hard rock track! To make the recording easy, he brought in some local musicians in Spain, Juan Carlos Gibaja on bass and Edu Brenes on drums to submit to me. I wrote the lyrics also about being deceived and lied to by either a politician or even a relationship, how easy it is to be blinded by lies.

A neurotic blend of power metal, prog, groove-laden huge guitars, hooks and production, SOTO is a contender in today's modern Rock arena while capturing the essence of strong songwriting simultaneously.

Jeff adds, ''The past 5 or more years have propelled me a plethora of anger and frustration, I'm actually quite pissed off about a lot of things, SOTO is my outlet to release some of this pent up emotion. We realize there are a lot of folks young and old who may be sharing these thoughts so this is especially for them too. We're not reinventing the wheel here, we're just creating an outlet for where our hearts are both musically and mentally…I’m just not in a 'touch your golden hair' mood right now!''.

WET - AN INTERVIEW WITH JEFF, ERIK AND ROBERT

Artist:
Thursday, June 12, 2014
Categories:

W.E.T: The downpour has only just begun...

Time to talk to the mastermind's behind this year's classic debut album - W.E.T. Jeff Scott Soto, Erik Martensson and Robert Sall....

I guess the starting point of an interview at this stage must be the critical and fan feedback on this amazing album you guys have managed to write and record. You must all be pleasantly surprised with the acclaim?

JSS: Well I guess some cheers to you as well as jeers for that, haha. You certainly started an upheaval of opinions on your site which was fun for us to watch on the outside. I get on there once in a while to dig & jab with some of the regulars but this time I decided to watch the debate, it was great fun reading as well as nice to get so much attention, good or bad! We had no idea this thing would get much attention past our individual fans but we've stepped on a landmine here, this thing is outselling a lot of my past endeavours, I guess people really found a click with W.E.T. I am very proud of my comrades here on the little monster we created!

From a one-off project as things started, it seems this is now a band and has taken on a life of it's own?

JSS: Yes, especially now that were discussing the prospects of touring now. I said from day one we would consider it if there was interest....well, were considering it!

Going right back to the start - what was originally pitched to you from Frontiers guys?

JSS: Yes, Serafino Perugino, the president of Frontiers as well as my bastard twin separated at birth, haha, came to me with this idea. I knew of Erik's music with Eclipse but only heard some Work Of Art songs without having met Robert at that point, but was very impressed with their vibe thinking this could be pretty cool. Once I got the 1st batch of songs, I couldn't wait to dive into them, even though I didn't co-write them, it was almost like copping Erik's vibe from his vocal demos & making them my own, it was really cool.

Erik and Robert - you had not written together before right? But instantly it seems there was great chemistry between you.

Erik: I've known Robert for over ten years and we have always discussed that we should make a melodic rock album together. But we never got together and actually made one. Thankfully, Serafino gave us a very good reason to make one! And things went surprisingly smooth when we started to write together. There is absolutely no prestige between us so if one had a better idea then the other one just backed off.

Robert: Since Erik and I have been friends for years, we were both familiar with each others music and I always felt that if we just could find the right situation, we would come up with some pretty exciting music. I think the WET album is a proof of that. It was almost too easy writing these songs with Erik and I know we're gonna write lots more music together in the future.

How did you work the initial stages of writing?

Erik:
We just sat down in my studio and wrote almost everything on acoustic guitar. When we had the first basic idea of the song I started to demo the song the same day. More or less all the bass guitar and rhythm guitars from the first demo are what you hear on the album. I really believe that the energy you give a song when you record it the first time has something special that is really worth keeping, even if it isn't played perfectly.

Robert: We usually got together in Erik's studio around 10 o'clock in the morning and most of the time; we had a complete song by lunchtime. That's how quick most of these songs were written!

And Jeff, for an album of such importance to fans of "AOR Jeff", you left all the writing to the other guys. You were obviously comfortable in their abilities to deliver for everyone?

JSS: Yes, as I said earlier, it was all about trust & respect to those guys, especially to Erik for making sure he would impress me with some great melodies. Every song became better than the last as I started knocking these out on my home studio. Remember, we did NONE of this stuff together, like Talisman, we were worlds apart yet right next door when it came to knowing exactly what to do with the songs.

Jeff - you passed some early demos on to me in 2008 and I was immediately blown away at what you guys were going to do - but the end product is even more amazing!

JSS: Yes, I am glad I stepped into some of the production process as I was so pleased with how it was coming out but didn't realize the work files I had which were recorded to drum machines was the final drum product we would have in the end! There simply was not enough in the budget to use a live drummer & I went to Serafino insisting if this album is to reach its potential in the end, we MUST have a real drummer playing on it. He added to the budget & that's how we brought Robban (drummer from Eclipse) in. Same at the end, Erik mixed the album brilliantly but as he had never mastered an album in his life, I thought we should play it safe & hire someone I trust with all of my mixes, John Ellis, to give it the final touches. Again, Serafino opened the check book & we got what we needed.

Erik - as producer and main musician on this album and the recent (also amazing) Eclipse release - talk us through the process of working up a song demo and then moving onto a full blown mix...

Erik: Thanks for you kind words Andrew! As I said earlier, the first demo version is very close to the final album. I think that when you record an album you must know what you aim for when you start to write and record. I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted this album to sound like from the start. This means that you can make the right decisions of how to record it. If you want the guitars to be really massive and fat then you better have that guitar sound in you amp. It sound really simple, but too many musicians forget this. So many times I've been given the master tapes to mix an album and it's recorded really poorly.

What is your particular secret to getting the tunes to sound so amazing without the $100K budgets?

Erik:
A good pair of ears and good songs! Simple as that. And you can record and mix albums with the help of computers today and that really help to keep the costs down. The old, big studios cost a fortune to hire. But you still have to know how to mix and record and that is harder to get cheap. And all the guys on this album are great musicians and that really helps a lot too.

How was the recording process done with Jeff's participation? Jeff - did you fly in to do the lead vocals?

JSS:
Nope, all vocals done separately & nowhere near Stockholm :)

Erik: But since we all are Jedi Nights, we could sense each other with the help of the force all the time!

Jeff - the vocals on this album are outstanding and some of the highest range you have done in years. How hard were they to do? Has your constant touring over the last several years helped in this regard?

JSS:
I hadn't sung this range since my touring with Journey, I knew it would take some warming back into it as Beautiful Mess was a complete departure vocally. It actually became a bit easy because I had Erik's guide vocals that almost assisted me in revisiting my earlier years sound. I enjoyed sounding 26 again, it was fun, should be interesting to do live, haha.

At the same time - there are some truly heavy tunes here also. A truly great balance I thought...

Erik: Personally, (and I think that many on the melodic rock site disagree with me on this but), many melodic rock albums tend to bore me after a while. You put the album on and I'm really impressed with the great melodies and great performances but after a few songs they start to sound exactly the same. I turn them off and put something else on. I think it's very important to have a variety on an album to keep it interesting for the listener.

Robert: Nowadays when 12 songs on an album is almost standard, I think variation is the key to making an album interesting to listen to from the first to the last song. I think this album as really good mix of songs.

I agree. There are some obvious nuances in there to Steve Perry (vocally) and to Journey (musically) - Erik and Jeff - views on this?

JSS: I'll take this one...there are songs that naturally lean towards the Journey style, as I am & always will be heavily influenced by Steve Perry & his predecessor Sam Cooke, that vocal style naturally comes out in me without having to try or copy Sir Perry! Hence my statement on how this is what could have been in terms of my continuance with Journey, not song or genre-wise per se, mainly in that Perry influence is in the blood but well never know what it could have been.

If I Fall is the most obvious and seems to be a real fan favourite!

Erik: I love that song too. We re-wrote it a long time before it sounded like that album version. The original idea sounded nothing like the final version. This was the only song that we re-wrote a couple of times but it seems it was worth it. And yes, it sounds very much like Journey even if it was not planned.

Jeff - did you feel as if you had something to prove to a certain group by recording a dedicated melodic rock/AOR album?

JSS:
Not at all, remember this was all Serafino's idea, he was the one that wanted me to follow up with this kind of album for my solo career after Journey but I want my solo sound to be me 100%, not lean or borrow on the AOR side of things I've already done. With WET its fine to head this way, the shoe fits better on that foot!

So how about you guys - favourite songs on this album?

JSS: The 3 songs we did vids for, One Day At A Time, If I Fall, I'll Be There....too many to list!

Erik: Brothers In Arms, Invincible, If I Fall, Comes Down Like Rain

Robert: The 3 video songs.

How about the videos - nice to see you went to the effort to create 3 videos, giving extra life to the album as each one is released… It is obviously much easier these days to create a decent video without another $100k to waste!

JSS: Serafino asked me if we would do videos for this release as it is becoming a standard for my albums with Frontiers. I believe in giving the listener more bang for their buck, even if the videos are not 6 figure productions, it adds to the basic CD release as well as, I believe, assists on the illegal digital download thing, if 10 people buy the CD knowing they'll get more than just songs, that's enough for me to justify the extra budget & time we take to make the vids. I personally like them, I am proud of how well Gary (Schutt) has grown as a videographer & editor although I give all the shooting credit to my friend Lasse in Sweden for getting the footage for us.

What is the immediate touring plans for the band? I know that with 3 busy schedules that making time for this when you are all free at the same time will be challenging, but can you make it happen and when?

JSS: Were discussing it now, timing & scheduling. I won't be doing the TSO Spring tour in 2010 as originally planned so now I have the whole 1st half of the year to see what we can do with WET.

Jeff - will you co-write on album 2 and how could that influence the sound differently - if at all?

JSS: Who said there would be a 2nd album? :) Yes, I plan to be more involved with the next one, we will naturally bond touring & hanging on tour so with that comes capturing this on a new album. Talisman started exactly this way, completely separated & not really a real band, became my main squeeze for nearly 20 years & look at the coincidence, both bands are Swedish!

These songs deserve to be heard live. How would you work up a set list? Songs from everywhere you guys have been recently or just off the album?

JSS: It hasn't even been discussed but I am sure would visit the 3 bands that comprise this one....I would love to sing an Eclipse song maybe & have Erik sing a Talisman one, that could be cool! Robert has no voice so we might have to split vocals on a Work Of Art song :)
But I would imagine it would be primarily songs from the album.

And a potential line-up, who would round out a live band?

JSS: Exactly as you see it on the videos of course minus Marcel (RIP). I imagine Erik might play bass so we can remain a 5 piece band, I might play bass on some songs so Erik can play 2nd guitar, maybe Ill do some keys.....who knows how it will configure but well make it entertaining!

Erik - back to Eclipse now for you this year? And Robert - back to Work Of Art for a highly anticipated new album?

Erik: I will surely return to Eclipse this year. Magnus and me will start to write for a new album as soon as possible. I really look forward in writing new material for Eclipse. We've been showing each other a few ideas already and it looks (sounds) very promising.

Robert: We're almost done recording the new Work Of Art album and I except it to be mixed and done no later than March.

Robert - Work Of Art was an amazing debut - what have you planned for the new album?

Robert: The new album will more or less be in the same style as the first one. It might be slightly more west coast oriented at some places since we do realize that our first album attracted a lot of west coast music fans as well. And now when we have WET, I don't worry about exploring our west coast sound a little bit more. I think that's one of great things about WET that both Erik and I appreciate. With Eclipse, Erik gets to do the heavier Hard Rock stuff and with Work of Art, I can lean towards a more west coast-ish style. And then with WET, we mix both our styles and come with something that is 100% pure AOR :-)

And Erik - the last Eclipse was a masterpiece also - so where to from here for you guys?

Erik: I think we will take it even one step further towards hard rock with the next one. Another fine album with just killer and no fillers and absolutely no ballad!

Jeff - you are the ever busy workhorse of the business. TSO duties....solo dates with the new band...WET...what else have you got up your sleeve for 2010?

JSS:
So far, only to follow up on things out there, which is quite a bit now. Gonna chip away at the stone in 2010 before diving into anything else new.

Jeff - you like mixing things up and the recent move to JSS brand and the Beautiful Mess album....do you maintain that image and sound when returning for the next solo album and how far along is your thinking there?

JSS: Haven't thought that far ahead yet, who knows what will inspire me next? :)

Jeff - When is Queen going to see sense and get out there with you up front? :)

JSS: Haha, those guys have an agenda in mind, if I am to be part of it, they know I would love it, that is the last & only band I could foresee being a part of that already has its own past, I was once known as the guitar players singer, the last thing I want now is the replacement singer for well known bands!

Or how about an Eyes reunion? LOL

JSS: Umm, yea right!

Everyone - obviously there is going to be a huge demand for a follow-up album - when could that possible be started and delivered? Sometime next year?

JSS: One day at a time bro, let us have some fun with this one 1st, I would imagine that could be in the cards.

An album like this obviously excites a lot of the core fans within this scene - but truly - for those that wish for Melodic Rock music to rule the airwaves again, how big is our scene in your view and how many record can a great album sell in 2010?

JSS: I see it slowly creeping back in with the new bands, so many of the new artists coming out were listening to Def Leppard & Whitesnake when they were kids in the 80s, now they're all grown up & emulating the old sound with a new vibe. Listen to Orianthi, guitarist for Michael Jackson's latest line up before he passed, she is bringing back the whole guitar hero thing with melodic songs that you might hear Avril Lavigne doing, I think its great & about time, everything comes back full circle!

So it's back to work this week - where are you guys all at right now and what's on your "desk" so to speak?

JSS: I am literally about to make the final curtain call on the last show for the TSO winter tour then off to LA for the NAMM before returning to London.

Erik: I'm in the final process of writing another album for Frontiers and I'm working with a couple of other new Swedish bands at the moment.

Robert: I just got home from another writing session with Erik earlier today. Also, I'm writing songs for some new Frontiers projects and I'm currently writing songs for some Swedish artists.

Any message you would like to leave for the fans of the album and you guys individually?

JSS: Yea, buy the album, get rocked & see you on the road!

Erik: I couldn't have said it better myself!

Robert: I'll drink to that!

What have I left out - any last comments?

That you are responsible for keeping this music alive in a big way, our thanks go to you & THIS site!

The reunion will only happen on that day and it will be an exclusive one-off!
Furthermore we will have a few ARP vintage members there and we're proud to announce that both Vocalists Rob Rock and Jeff Scott Soto among original Drummer Joerg Michael will enter the stage too to play a few older ARP tracks!
