So Inglorious are the new hope for British classic hard rock. We’ve already got several bands doing the classic 70s rock thing (The Answer, Rival Sons, Black Star Riders), but no one that’s really doing the whole Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Bad Company, Aerosmith vibe which is what these guys state as their primary influences. And it works.

Formed in February 2014, the band is fronted by Nathan James, who made a name for himself having sung for the multi-platinum selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth.

The debut album has a monster classic rock production, especially with the rhythm section constantly bombarding you. James is pretty much everything you’d expect from a frontman hyped as an upcoming great. He has some immense lungs.

The album is out February 19 via Frontiers. Full review to follow, but here’s a quick look at the tracks:

After a build-up that would rival Rainbow and Deep Purple for mood and anticipation, Until I Die storms to life. It’s a mid-tempo hard hitting rocker with a terrific Zeppelinesque groove.

02.Breakaway is a storming fast paced Rainbow/Purple style rocker with organ and screaming vocals – everything you could ask for.

03.High Flying Gypsy turns the tempo back a notch, but is driven by a big riff and some nice soloing. The vocals wail of course.

04.Holy Water is a slow bluesy rock tune, with a really soulful vocal. It’s very Richie Kotzen and sounds like it could come from any of his solo albums. It’s a classic 70s swagger-n-blues tune. Very cool.

05.Warning takes a while to kick into high gear, but once rolling, delivers a wailing tempo boost when needed.

06.Bleed For You takes us back to a slow tempo. It’s a heavy ballad of sorts, the vocals are quite extraordinary.

07.Girl Got A Gun is the same slow pace again, perhaps up a notch for the decent chorus, but a bit slow.

08.You're Mine lifts the tempo slightly more again – we’re at mid-pace now. A decent hard rocker with more Kotzen familiarities with the vocals and some touches of Coverdale too.

09.Inglorious is a heavy, slow rocker with a good riff and some variety within the song, but slow again.

The first minute of Unaware is a slow piano intro before it fires up into a heavy but melodic heavy groover.

11.Wake is an acoustic ballad to close out, with a really big soulful vocal again from James.

So that’s the album. It certainly pays homage to the artists mentioned as influences and Nathan James is a monster vocalist with a strong Richie Kotzen / David Coverdale vibe.

The rest of the band are no slouches either – dynamic performances. Very convincing for a debut.

It all comes down to the tempo though – only 1 or 2 really fired up, fast paced tracks. Much more listening over the next week to see how the songs grow and last with me.

As KOTZEN explains, 'I was thinking that there are so many fans around the world that simply don't have access to or can't afford to buy this content. Not that I'm looking to give everything away, but I thought by making this available for people to watch on YouTube I was sort of giving back a bit to all the great people who have bought my music, concert tickets, and generally supported my pretty much 'underground' career over the last 20 years. Those who can afford or desire to own the full resolution DVD still have the option of buying it as well...and I hope they do as I've still got a few on-going bills to pay (laughing).'

KOTZEN and his band ended their 2014-2015 tour in Tokyo, Japan at Akasaka Blitz, where they shot the entire concert in high-definition. This is RICHIE KOTZEN and his band'bassist Dylan Wilson and drummer Mike Bennett--at their best. It features some of his classics, 'You Can't Save Me,' 'Remember,' as well as new songs 'Cannibals,' 'War Paint,' and 'Walk With Me.' The collection also includes off-the-chart improvisational solo sections between KOTZEN and his virtuoso rhythm section. ”I Don’t Miss the Misery” tells the story of a man on the brink of madness, going through hell and he finally sees the light; perspective changes in a crisis and you find new kicks in life. In ”Do Your Own Stunts”, which musically is in the same vein as the classic ”Get You On The Run”, Anders writes about a father trying to teach his kids how to live their lives to the fullest, and ”Together Alone” is a heartbreaking and powerful ballad, that sees Anders singing lead vocals for the first time. But, it wouldn’t be a TREAT album without a kick ass, Friday-night-let’s party-and-get-too-wild song: ”Too Late To Die Young” is a tongue in cheek classic rocker, with some clever name checking.

Robert Ernlund (vocals), Anders Wikström (Guitars and backing vocals), Patrick Appelgren (keyboards, guitar and backing vocals), Jamie Borger (drums) and new bass player Pontus Egberg (King Diamond) are a powerhouse. Pontus replaces the band’s songwriting partner Fredrik Thomander who has also been performing live with the band since 2013. ”When we started working on this album and in need of a permanent replacement on bass, Pontus was the only guy we had in mind. Last Day????????Maaaaaaybbbbeeee?????Bruno and I have been(Lets just say 99% Bruno-1 % me)killing ourselves to get The Defiants thing done and finished...We pretty much are now,and thats a good thing..I can safely say,that anybody who loved what we did in the past,will freak out when they hear this record...It's pretty damn cool,and we wrote our asses off..

To all of you out there who still follow me,I have a couple things to say...

1.I am sorry for not being on here,and being able to write you all back..usually I am pretty good at this part of social media? But sometimes when you are "doing your art",as I like to think of it,some things must be sacrificed to get it done...Social media was one of those things..So were emails/phone calls/visiting family/having any sort of normal life...Please give me a pass...Sometimes I have to drop out,in order to be good at what I do..

2.DarkHorse!!!! Yes YesYes!!! Still continues to be my number 1 thing,just as DangerDanger continues to be Bruno and Rob's number 1 thing...

DarkHorse Album 2 is just about to be recorded,and Nashville awaits..

BOSTON celebrates 4 decades with 2016 North American Tour

Forty years ago today, February 1st 1976, the amazing story of the iconic band BOSTON officially began when Tom Scholz and Brad Delp signed their recording contract with Epic Records. Their first album, Boston, would quickly become the best selling debut album in history, and its founder Tom Scholz would become recognized for his charitable work, promotion of higher education, and technical innovation.

BOSTON recordings are known for their sonic purity and massive "cathedral of sound" (Cameron Crowe, Rolling Stone), thanks to Scholz' novel arranging, production, and instrumental performances, and Delp's artfully layered vocals.

Back in 1976 no one could have guessed that two unknown writer/performers were about to create albums that would eventually sell over 30 million copies. The phenomenon surprised Scholz as well as the staff of Epic Records, at a time when the industry was caught up in the 70s disco bubble. However, the popular description of the debut album as an overnight success, a "Cinderella story," could not have been farther from the truth.

For six long years Scholz worked as a design engineer for Polaroid during the daytime and then went to work at night in his home studio, writing, recording, engineering, performing - even inventing novel musical equipment - that would eventually bring the "BOSTON" sound to life. But BOSTON almost never saw the light of day. By the end of 1975, after so many years of exhausting work and spent savings, Scholz had decided it was time to accept defeat, dismantle his studio, and sell his equipment. He then completed his planned final demo, almost as a formality, and suddenly everything changed. That demo was "More than a Feeling."

Scholz' inspired compositions, musical instinct as a multi-instrumentalist, and technical wizardry, complimented by Delp's stratospheric vocals, created a new sound that many other groups and their record labels tried to imitate. Following BOSTON's success, Scholz felt a new obligation as a role model, and has used BOSTON's popularity to promote education, empathy, and a healthy lifestyle. He has donated millions of dollars to organizations that fight animal cruelty, feed the homeless, and help children. Both Delp and guitarist Gary Pihl, a 30 year veteran of the band, also made substantial donations to these causes. Under his direction, the band's tours have raised money and awareness for numerous causes including National Hospice, Sierra Club, Shriner's Hospital for Children, Sea Shepherds, and AIDS relief.

Today BOSTON is recognized for the technical excellence of its live productions, the outstanding performance of its talented band members on stage, and their uncanny ability to reproduce all the unique sounds of their studio albums without the use of prerecorded material. For their 2016 "Four Decades Tour" BOSTON will delight their audiences with a high energy set of their well- known hits plus extended live arrangements, accompanied as always by their own unique visual stage presentation. The tour finale will feature a return to their first ever headline venue in the city of Boston at the Boston Music Hall, now known as the Wang Center.

Excitement continues to build around the April release of a brand new TREAT album - 'Ghost Of Graceland'.

But what's it all about? Is it an Elvis covers album? Is it Memphis inspired or perhaps the guys ate nothing but peanut butter and banana sandwichs while recording?

I sked drummer JAMIE BORGER for more info.

He states: "I've been living with these 12 new TREAT songs for 6 months, and now that they're down on tape, mixed and mastered, I can tell you this much; U Gonna Fuckin' Love `Em All!! (parden my French) :-)

This is the record we have wanted to do for years! After our success with Coup De Grace (2010) I guess a lot of people out there thought it'd be impossible to top that one; but here it is!
I've been in this business for more that 30 years now, and I've never been this excited 'bout an album that I've recorded! If this is the last album we ever do, I'll be so proud to go out with a big bang!!!"

Wow!

So what does Frontiers A&R/CEO Serafino think? His reply was pretty simple: "IT'S A MONSTER!!!"

JIMMY BAIN's Death Blamed On Cancer

Jimmy Bain - friend, brother and band mate passed away on Saturday January 23, 2016.

The Medical Examiner report states the official cause of death was lung cancer.

Jimmy didn't know he had lung cancer, but he did know he had pneumonia and was receiving treatment for it.
This didn't stop him or slow him down, we had four rehearsals 4 hours a day, then a flight to Miami for The Def Leppard Rock Cruise.

A pre-sail gig and sound check was scheduled for the following day. At the gig Jimmy played great and even sang that night while holding a heavy bass guitar on his back, never complaining or asking for help.

Next day we preceded to board the cruise ship for a 5 day voyage of which we were scheduled to play Sunday the 4th day.
That gig never happened as Jimmy passed away in his cabin the night before, we were devastated.

Jimmy was a trooper, he gave his all to the band he loved, the music he loved and the fans.He didn't want to let anyone down.
I don't know anyone that would have attempted this schedule while being this sick and not feeling well, a trooper.

He was so happy and proud of the new album we recorded, it so unfortunate and sad he didn't live to see it released.
We were all looking forward to being on the road and playing together again, there was such a magic between us.

Our prayers go out to his family and so many friends and fans who will miss the amazing person that was Jimmy Bain.

American vocalist/guitarist Lita Ford is set to release her latest album Time Capsule on Steamhammer/SPV on 15 April 2016.

The very special and unusual recording turns back the clock to a time when honest, down-to-earth rock music was still handmade and recorded without digital tricks and contraptions. Time Capsule is a ”throwback” record that boasts identifiable voices and brilliant players jamming without any planning or pressure. Some of the album`s highlights: Billy Sheehan (bass), Rodger Carter (drums), Dave Navarro (mandolin), Jeff Scott Soto (vocals), Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander (backing vocals) and Gene Simmons (bass).

“There was a shitload of these 24-track analog tapes in the closet in my house (in the islands),” Ford recalls. “This is some of the best work I`ve ever done and it was sitting there. I grabbed two suitcases and took them back to the United States.” Imagine Ford dragging a pair of suitcases full of analog tapes through the Caribbean dirt back to Los Angeles, so, as she recalls, “we could bake these fuckers,” due to their age. “If you just put them on the reel, they would flake. I was chewing my fingernails, thinking, ´Please work!` And they did!”

Time Capsule contains ten songs plus intro and will be available as a digipak as well as an LP version and download. It`s Ford`s gift to fans who love the ´80s, when thrilling vocal performances, raunchy riffs, and loud, growling guitars were as essential as oxygen.

Australian/multi-national rockers THE DEAD DAISIES have lost two members to the GUNS N ROSES "reunion", but have added the wonderful DOUG ALDRICH to their ever changing lineup.

New York, NY (January 28th, 2016) – The Dead Daisies are proud to announce the addition of Doug Aldrich to the lineup as lead guitarist of the powerful music collective. Guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed will be stepping aside to be a part of a momentous project in 2016.

Aldrich is currently in Nashville with the Daisies working with producer Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Gavin Rossdale, Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry) on their follow up to the album Revolución, released last year following the bands trip to Cuba, where the classic rock group were part of a cultural exchange as guests of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, Cuban Institute of Music and the Cuban Rock Agency. The still untitled album will be released globally on SPV Records later this year.

Aldrich joins bassist Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), guitarist David Lowy (MINK, Red Phoenix), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream) on vocals and Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol) on drums.

“I’m very, very happy to join my friends Marco, Brian, John and David in the next chapter of The Dead Daisies,” proclaims Aldrich. “I love the band and I’m looking forward to getting busy on the new record. This band is bringing back a raw, back to the bones sound that a lot of groups go for but The Dead Daisies are looking to nail. At this point in time, we are looking to have a kick ass Rock ‘n’ Roll album in the can by spring 2016.”

Fortus couldn’t be happier, saying: “When we started speaking about finding someone to replace me, the first suggestion I had was Doug Aldrich. It doesn’t get any better than Doug in my book. I am so happy that he is able and willing to step in and take over. I think that it will elevate the band to the next level. Thanks to everyone that has supported the Daisies over the last couple of years. Stay tuned to see what they come up with next. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!”

David Lowy, one of the original founders of The Dead Daisies said: “We’re really going to miss Richard and Dizzy. It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to write, record and perform with such talented world-class musicians and all-around great guys. I’ve personally learnt so much from both of them. We’re very excited to announce Doug Aldrich will be joining The Dead Daisies in the lead guitar role. Doug was Richard’s first pick to replace him. He’s a highly accomplished musician, performer and songwriter and we’re really looking forward to Doug joining us as the Dead Daisies adventure rolls on.”

Marco Mendoza couldn’t be more excited as well of course. “Doug and I shared the stage for many years with Whitesnake and have been involved in many recording sessions and projects. He is a powerful guitar player and performer, can’t wait to bring him in on our next efforts in the studio and on the road. VIVA LA ROCK!”

Since exploding onto the scene in 2013, The Dead Daisies have taken the Classic Rock world by storm, releasing two albums to date & touring with the biggest names in rock including: ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Judas Priest, KISS and Def Leppard. 2015 was a banner year that saw the band release their 2nd album, make a historic visit to Cuba, join the line-up for some of the biggest European Rock Festivals including Download and Graspop, tour around the globe with Whitesnake and KISS as well as play a sold out triumphant headline show in Paris. The band then returned to the UK for the first time in two years to play a series of Sold Out club shows, including the special guest slot at Planet Rock Stock in Wales.

With the year having just started, The Dead Daisies are well underway to continue to rewrite the book on Classic Rock. With a killer new album in the works, massive touring being booked and fueled by their ever-growing fan base, the band is showing no signs of letting up.

Following the release of their latest studio album - “Devil's Dozen” – ROYAL HUNT participated in three widely known Festivals around the globe in the fall of 2015: ProgPower USA, Loud Park Japan and Rockingham UK. They performed their energetic brand of symphonic/progressive yet highly melodic and instantly accessible Royal Rock for thousands of appreciative fans.

While ROYAL HUNT´s next tour – sat to the spring of 2016 – is being announced (see dates below), the band found the time to gather in the studio and pick out the best performances recorded during their festival trek: an hour and a half of ROYAL HUNT´s trademark sonic assault, skillfully captured on tape.

Why live album and why now? "Well, mostly because we haven´t released any live recordings for – roughly – 10 years or so." says keyboard maestro and principal songwriter Andre Andersen, “2006” was great and many fans consider it to be our best (some will pick “1996” or “Closing the Chapter” as their favorite) but anyway – it´s been awhile, so we assumed that it might be interesting for you to check out our “new swing” at this live set. Just think about it: last time we recorded “Paradox” live was almost 20 years ago! Add a few new songs, the excitement of the festival performance, a couple of new faces to the line-up and – all of a sudden – things are sounding quite a bit different. We´d say it sounds fresh but let´s see what´s your opinion on this matter will be."

The album includes a complete rendition of their signature concept album “Paradox”. Royal Hunt released 13 studio albums and their name stands for quality Symphonic / Progressive Metal.
