I haven’t cared much for REO Speedwagon Hi Infidelity album, way to polished for my liking, but just played “You get what you play for”. I think it one of those live double albums that came out in the 70s that seems to slipped by. We all remember UFO, Thin Lizzy, Ted Nugent, Rush but REO should be up there with them. The Mid West had some great bands, such as Missouri, Head East, Skater, Ca

Just seen some photos of Download festival, since when has festivals resembled a Airport arrivals hall. Donnington, for me was going up with the clothes on my back, couple of plastic bottles to pee into. I hate the way festivals have now turned into a cooperate event.

It’s hardly Angel with two of the original members and a group of hired hands. For me Angel was Frank, Punky, Gregg, Barry and Felix along with the stage show and costumes.

The Godz hated Angel, they put glue in Greg’s shampoo. The only time they come out in support of Angel was when security got to heavy handed and The Godz came out with their guns. The debut Godz album is such a monster.

While on the subject of Touch, let’s not forget American Tears, their last album Powerhouse is a must for melodic rock fans. Branded Bad and Tear Gas are ok, but Powerhouse set the foundation for Touch.

Blackhorse where a Texas power trio. They released one private pressing album back in 79.The album really needs to be heard. Nothing short of brilliant for its time. There is a story that when Blackhorse where recording the album a young kid would come to the studio to watch them. The kid was Darrell Dimebag.i heard that Darrells dad owned or worked at a studio in Texas, but not sure if its the s

Went out to lunch with Brian Forsyth from Kix about 10 years ago, really nice guy, and both Jimmy and Donnie from the band where really friendly. Anvil at the Marquee 83 were great guys. My wife’s friend was Lars Ulrich first wife, they both turned up at a mates flat New Year’s Eve party in Raynes

Some of their stuff is ok, don’t think I will rush out and pick up the RC releases. On another note, I used to play pool with the drummers brother. He was over in the UK for 6 months, back in 1983.

I introduced Helstar to the world. My pen pal from Houston had a radio show called the Random Sampler, back in 1982/3. He sent me a demo of Helstar. I reviewed it in MF and gave a copy to Bernard then it did the rounds. I went to Houston mid 83 and meet up with Helstar and watched them rehearse and play at a friends wedding. About 6 months later they signed with Combat. About that time I became m
