Why are ballads a bad thing?? I think they help pace an album and add new flavors...sure, there are ballad-heavy albums out there or times the label pushes ballads too much, but I don't get this generally embraced notion that bands should only do uptempo rock, "no ballads". Anyway, it remains to be seen whether they can pull it off without any outside help....I'm not buying into th

Actually, this thing is a massive trend all over the internet...it's gone viral all over YouTube. There are probably thousands of these. Does this also include the stuff at the BMI database, or as I suspect, is BMI hold a whole different set of songs from ASCAP? I remember fiddling around in the BMI database many years ago, which is how I discovered tracks from some of my favorite songwriters....stuff they had written for other artists, etc. Cheers, Jack.

Hey folks, Here are some Leppard/Swift songs that didn't make the broadcast on CMT Crossroads.... Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-Bm9oNWhvY Two Steps Behind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7j2UZcAdM4 The other unreleased one is Swift's "Our Song", which I imagine will be uploaded at some point. I was pleasantly surprised by "Love". While it grew on me a bit lat

HEy folks, Totally idle post here. Not meant to ridicule or anything like that, just a mindless observation. Because of my age, I didn't really become familiar with Neal Schon through Bad English & Journey until about 91 or 92. Even then, I was young. And when I first saw his photos, I knew he reminded me of someone...but I couldn't put my finger on it, try as I might. And through t

BB Steal is very much like Def Lep, but still a subpar clone. For someone who likes DL, I would recommend the awesome "Get a Life" album by Stage Dolls....I wouldn't call them clones because they're a banf with their own history and styles, but there are many similarities in the high tech elements, melodies, and backing vocals. I don't see how anyone who likes Leppard from Pyro onwar

...I mean, good for him if he's happy. But I'm not happy myself because I feel no connection to him. It's cool he has fans who find joy in the news, but I can hardly muster any empathy (which is hard, because I'm a total cry-at-the-movies softie). You read the news with indifference and move to the next item. Whether it's well-founded or not, I feel he's an unstable prick so it's easy for me

Thanks for the comments, guys. I checked out Zen reviews on Cnet.com and they were very positive. Then I posted on a bunch of audiophile-type boards and everyone unanimously agreed that, while Zen sounds much better than ipod, Sony still had better sound quality than Zen. I have heard about Sony's infamous software, but they seem to have dispensed with that. So it's looking like this one

Hey Laurent, I think credibility doesn’t stem so much from how serious the music is, but how seriously the artist treats his music. And this respect for their own work comes through in a variety of related choices – from the lyrics to the commitment to great songwriting to...say, choosing to put a pair of huge tits on the album as a goof. I’m wild about breasts, but would not want to h

Hey folks, So my old Mp3 player, which I wasn't too crazy about and was frustratingly 4 GB, has died and I'm looking for a replacement. I don't really care about video or extra features like voice recording...the only thing I want is great sound. I was looking at Sony's players, which by all accounts destroy Apple soundwise and have a far superior battery life. The 8 GB E-series is really c

Hopefully, when Eddie has his first major fight with his new wife, he won't erase her from the wedding photos. Though as long as Wolfgang can always be photoshopped in wearing a white dress, it's all good. Cheers, Jack.

Hey folks, For those of you who may be interested, CMT now has it up...he just did it with some guy called Jason Aldean: http://www.cmt.com/videos/misc/404657/cmt-crossroads-bryan-adams-and-jason-aldean-1-summer-of-69-and-johnny-cash.jhtml?id=1614782 If you scroll down the side menu, you can choose all the parts of the show. Cheers, Jack.

134. Also...
...it would save time from having to click on every single post in a long-ass thread. Which can be annoying when you have 10 posts one after another that say, "yeah, I agree!" or "yeah, he rocks". That way, you can just scroll down the thread and skip stuff that doesn't require reading...it's all on the same page! Cheers, Jack.

Sorry mate, I'm too busy in a long-term relationship: http://www.muttonbone.com/inflatable-sheep-specs/ I wanted to post a photo...why don't we have a modern board where we can post photographs, links, all that fun stuff? Much as I love this old archaic forum, it would be nice....besides, sometimes conversations sink while they're still going on and such, you know? Cheers, Jack.

136. It was...
Originally, it was Tom Kelly (of the Kelly/Steinberg songwriting duo). Then at some point I think that didn't work out and Mark Spiro was brought in....followed, of course, by Huff. Cheers, Jack.

I'm split. Eric's voice is, as ever, brilliant. But the instrumentation and arrangement in the back is really...karaoke. Makes it sound like doctor's office muzak or something. Cheers, though, and thanks for sharing... Jack.

With all this talk about GBs and TBs....just out of curiosity, what are the names for the units of measurement larger than a terabyte? I'm computer illiterate, you see. Cheers, Jack.

Honestly, even if Dann is involved, it's still a coin toss. Giant III was pretty iffy to me; save a track or two, I didn't really like it. Cheers, Jack.

...maybe they saw the instant and unanimous backlash it caused and have reconsidered the project's name? Like others have said, I'd love to hear what David Huff & Co. have prepared - maybe it's worth hearing. It's cool to have side projects, but yeah, to call it Giant is like if Tico Torres & David Bryan splintered off to release the next "Bon Jovi" record. Cheers, Jack.

Even though it was just a joke...in an odd way, I'd be interested to hear what another band - even a totally poppy one - with a great production could do, just out of idle curiosity...unfortunately, Adam Levine's helium voice would destroy the songs. Oh, and to add a name to the 'jerks in music' list we had going on: Adam Levin from Maroon 5 is a cock of the highest order. Cheers, Jack.

Playlist.com also lost me when I realized you can only play things that are already in their database. Extremely limiting, especially if you want to include rare gems or specific songs you like. Oh well. Cheers, Jack.

Hey Chris, I can't access that link for some reason; doesn't take me anywhere. Anyway, I went to Spotify.com and it said it's invitation only, which is garbage....and if you want in anyway, they charge you money! Is there any other way? Cheers, Jack.

I still enjoy the highly polished records more, but totally see where people are coming from. I agree 100% that H&D doesn't really sound dated, while the more heavily produced Pyro does. I think that the more things are piled on top of each other, the more it becomes associated with a particular era and gets a bit bogged down by the sonic elements. It's a fine line and Pyro really neede

Hey, The whole point was to do like Bighair and actually build our playlists to share with each other. If we just post laundry lists of what we like, no one is actually going to listen to anything. The interactivity comes from actually doing the Playlist.com thing and sharing, discovering new things in that way. Well, maybe that doesn't appeal to everybody, but that's what I thought was exc

Hey folks, Because of the discussion below, I went to playlist.com and heard BigHair's playlist. I love this idea....I've missed the MR Radio Playlist and enjoy cleansing my palate with other people's tastes and suggestions (provided their tastes aren't so off the charts I can't connect to them!). I really enjoy sitting back and hearing a musical selection someone else has prepared. I think

Hey Alex, High n Dry is a great album, but where you ultimately rank it depends on where youre coming from. In my opinion, someone who says it's Def Leppard's best album isn't a big fan of the Def Leppard sound, because the core elements that cemented their identity came later. It's tantamount to saying that it's #1 precisely because it's one of their less Leppy albums. Don't get me wrong,
