I don't get the distinction of streaming vs downloading clips. Presumably, their logic is that streaming is somehow "safer" because people don't end up possessing the actual file. This is flawed thinking, and the opposite is true. If Andrew posted a 30-second or minute long preview, it would remain just that: a taste, a preview. It whets one's appetite for more, and you wonder how

Hey Frank, Wow, talk about being cheated. Honestly, you should write a polite but strongly worded e-mail outlining the situation. While they may have a policy where international customers pay for return shipping, this should not apply to you because it's a very specific set of circumstances. This doesn't fall under the category of a normal return; e.g., "I changed my mind and want my

You may be right....I think it just needed to grow a bit. In the time since I wrote that, I've been hearing it over & over and find myself enjoying it more & more with every spin. Good stuff. Still not too crazy about the choice of single, though. Cheers, Jack.

Good tune, good hooks, but a bit unspectacular by Gotthard standards. Still, I remember not being thrilled by "The Call" and the album was fantastic....and even The Call itself grew on me far beyond my first impression. Cheers, Jack.

Hey folks, This is starting to look like the Sparkle Lounge Lep threads popping up over & over when it was released. Ok, so I listened to the entire Daughtry album (thanks Coquito, I heard the rest on YouTube) and it's very good. Sure, it's cliched and predictable as fuck (I mean, you could've replaced the vocals with David Cook's), but it also has some excellent songs on it like "Se

Does anyone know where one can legally listen to the album online? I think there was a streaming promo thing someplace? Again, I don't really do blind buys anymore, so....if it comes down to it, I'll do something else, of course, but prefer to listen to it legally when the opportunity exists. I'm having a CD shopping spree tomorrow and was wondering whether to include it. Cheers, Jack.

Sorry to hear about your trouble, Chessie - hope your brother gets better soon! Phil is absolutely right - the situation boggles the mind. I grew up in Mexico City, where socioeconomic disparity is vaster and far more entrenched than anything that exists in the US. This polarization is exacerbated by a variety of factors not present in the States...yet even a poor construction laborer (and by

Hm, when a 30 k payday seems exhorbitant, no wonder Dann Huff doesn't want any part of this....then he has to divvy up his money with 3 other guys? Cover a bunch of expenses? Sure, one could always argue the money is in touring and what have you, but how is an oldies act like Nelson going to pull off a successful tour more than a few dates long in 2009? Dann's better off playing in Six Flag

Hey Mick, Hm, I looked into this and Limewire is as illegal as it ever was. That said, it seems they recently opened something called Limewire Store, where you can legally purchase songs: "Our plan with the LimeWire Store is to add to the LimeWire experience–we’re not going to take anything away. We think purchase links should appear alongside Gnutella search results, similar to how G

I know the first Rocklahoma was well attended, but surely it doesn't help that the festival is held smack in the middle of nowhere?? Pryor Creek or something? In Oklahoma, which is nowhere near any major metropolis? That means you're catering exclusively to hardcores who will go to the middle of nowhere.... Cheers, Jack.

Hey Morse, I'm not too big on Stryper, but enjoy Michael's solo work. I should mention that I'm not a Christian (though I guess I'm culturally Christian/Catholic because I was raised in Mexico) and don't identify with evangelization or blatant proselityzing. That said, I'm in no way opposed to Christianity (unless it devolves into fundamentalist nonsense) and definitely enjoy Sweet's work.

Good call, Figge! I really enjoyed reading them....they actually didn't feel nearly as abridged as I thought they'd be. In fact, there's a few things I'm going to check out based on their high ranking...we'll see if even cynical Jack finds something to love. Also, totally spot on with the Chickenfoot review. I had the exact same concern about hooky songwriting, but it totally won me over w

Hey, I'm not trying to pick the album apart or make a definitive judgment on the record as a whole, which would be impossible. I just shared my immediate thoughts on Ted's vocals on the first track. Am I supposed to be so grateful that D2 is back that my opinion is rendered pointless? If that's perceived as whining, I don't care. What, am I supposed to fall into step with some kind of groupt

I agree, especially the first track. My initial reaction was that Ted sounds fine, yet he has no emotion in his voice, no energy, no power. It's like he's got no vocal strength or expressiveness...reminded me a bit of Gary Hughes on the Ten debut album (it's the only one I have)... Obviously, I'm in the minority here. Cheers, Jack.

Hey folks, A bit off topic for a MR board, but Rodrigo & Gabriela's instrumental stuff (I actually bought their album on the strength of someone's recommendation here) came on the speakers just now and I was wondering...does anyone have any recommendations in the vein of this Spanish guitar type stuff? I really enjoy how it cleanses the rock palate but am hardly knowledgeable. Cheers, Jack

114. Well...
...I've never ever heard Crimson Glory (though I may have heard of them in passing) and have no clue who Midnight is, so of course my reaction to this news was a shrug. Like others have said, it's always regrettable on a human level, but I really felt nothing. That said, in a few cases, I have genuinely felt great disappointment over the passing of someone I didn't know. It doesn't mean that

This is obviously an extremely complex subject with a huge amount of layers...so, while I realize that what I'm about to write is a gross oversimplification and just a tiny sliver of the issue: Look, I have no compunction in downloading songs and or albums I haven't heard. You know why? It's insurance, plain & simple. I've gotten burned so many times, it's not even funny. The amount of

Yeah, I got it, but I wasn't addressing the larger point about the tribute itself, just the minor bit about his daughter. I keep reading in other places about how they exploited the little girl by pushing her to speak, and it's bullshit, so I just commented on it. Cheers, Jack.

Jackson's daughter was in no way forced or prodded to speak by the family. When Marlon finished speaking, the little girl whispered something in Janet's ear, and Janet said, "are you sure?". When the girl confirmed this, they said something to Marlon, who thought Janet was going to talk, but he was told the little girl wanted to say something. The 'poking' once she spoke was just

...what else has he done that you guys know of and can recommend? Judging from the AM debut, he's an incredible writer & producer. I know he was involved in Jude Cole's excellent View From Third Street, but other than that I'm not sure who else he has collaborated with. Anyone? Cheers, Jack.

This is fantastic news...she disappeared for a long time. Even the most hardcore Amanda Marshall fansites had no clue what was going on for years. I'm a little wary because she says it's a departure and a real left turn...because to be honest, I far prefer her first two records to the quite different third. I'm all in favor of experimentation, but couldn't really get into it much. Still, loo

Oh, that's why...who was it, Ross Halfin?...made the joke that M5 were re-recording Pyro and Hysteria with Mutt Lange. Well, if Mutt can help Nickelback produce a great rock album, I'm sure he can help Maroon 5 produce a great pop record. Cheers, Jack.
