I watched the Unscripted interview with Bruce now. It's clear he's ready for retirement, asking for one final tour, whereas Kevin is far from ready to retire. So, he goes out solo, unable to tour under the REO banner without Bruce (and Neal's?) blessing. I don't see what's so strange about it.

Kevin is the voice of the band and the main songwriter and it appears the band will stay the same only with a change of name. Bruce being in our out of the band will have no impact on ticket sales whatsoever, so it's understandable Kevin will still go out even though Bruce's health doesn't allow him joining.

James is the voice of DT for sure and cannot be replaced (contrary to MP). He is very shaky live though, always has been. Hopefully he improves as the tour goes on. It cannot be a momentous occasion when he sounds this way, unfortunately.

BCC has everything going for them except one important thing: strong songs. From Hughes & Thrall and onwards it's been proven time and time again that Glenn's best work is with strong songwriting partners. Unfortunately, Bonamassa doesn't belong in that category. Compare Perry on Raised on Radio to Waite with Bad English, and one would be forgiven for saying Waite has a limited range :) That's not to say he isn't distinctive. Quite the opposite in fact. What he lacks in horsepower, he makes up for with style. Similar to Mogg :)

Have been in a heavy Mogg mode recently, going through UFO's albums and discovering Walk on Water and Covenant for the first time. It's hard to pinpoint what Mogg's real strength is but his voice just screams UFO, basically :) There's some real emotion coming from him somehow. What do you think?

He certainly hasn't lost the ability to write great stuff together with Paich and Williams. Highlights of the album for me the two punch of: When I See You Again (laid back yet driven bass playing that makes the song for me) and Take My Love which is Kingdom of Desire 2023. Love it! ... and now I see that the bass playing on the former is Luke himself :)

At first I didn't like the mix, on the boomy side, but it's nothing I think of now. A collection of great/blue songs, with restrained soloing and heartfelt singing. A winner.

Brooks said it well. The drums are more or less buried. I wasn't expecting Tambu type clarity but if you are going to have Simon Phillips play, you better feature him in the mix. Also, disappointed to hear about the running time of 35 mins. That's more like an EP than a full album. Same as Paich's latest offering.

Good point, Gary. I don't want them to be clones of their old selves. I just want memorable songs, riffs and melodies. There is a shortage of them all across the 3 albums released so far. It's a mid tempo plod fest, basically, with a Freeman who should learn to hold back every now and then.

Very litte in common with the old Dio band, unfortunately, which is strange given how much influence Appice/Campbell had on the Dio sound. I guess Ronnie had a lot to do with the songwriting. Freeman falls way short of Ronnie's abilities, but I find him one dimensional even by today's standards. Have been checking out the new album, Jericho, and struggled to get halfway through it. The reason? No hooks nor melodies, the exact things that made Dio such a stand out band back in the day. Also, to me, Freeman has an extremely limited range, often resorting to shouting, which quickly grates. A shame, since I want to hear Appice and Campbell together.
