Nottingham is the Bermuda Triangle of the Midlands. After Firefest 2, we swore we knew the way to Rock City for No.3, but could we find it? 30 minutes on the Friday night walking round in circles with no sign of the place. It's like the bloomin' Twilight Zone that city...(mind you, we'd started early in the hotel bar that day...)

"Two other songs I'm burning to cover are The Alan Parsons Project's "Sirius" and Dakota's "Runaway" and I want the former to run into the latter instead of "Eye in the Sky." But at the same time, I also have lots of new originals that I'm very excited about." Hi Lec, I went over to your webpage and tried out the samples after reading Andrew's review. Very

As I said below, he did a great job with Alan Parsons last Saturday in Amsterdam. Was going to go and watch him in Birkenhead this coming weekend, but unfortunately can't make it up north now....

I'd like to see Honeymoon Suite (didn't know about The Gods shows, goshdarnit) or John Parr for the main day. Black 'n' Blue would be good too. It'd be nice to see Brian Spence on the Friday as well.

Just got back from Amsterdam at the weekend to see Alan Parsons in concert - fantastic! BUT, it was a real eye opener to see Kip Winger walk out for the main vocals. I knew that Kip fronted the band for a short while around 4 years ago, but due to scheduling problems couldn't make it permanent. Then AP brought in PJ Olsson, and he's been out front since then. Anyone know if Kip is back for more

The movie "The Wraith" (Charlie Sheen) is on BBC1 tomorrow night in the UK (Monday). Dunno how good or bad the movie is, but I think Andrew was right to put it in the 'killer soundtrack' list.... Honeymoon Suite, Stan Bush, Tim Feehan, Lion and Ozzy, amongst others!

Just found a Myspace link for him here.... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=165855516 Didn't realise he was in two great AOR bands ('Lodgic' and 'The Key') with Billy Sherwood...

Carl, Jimmy Hahn (or Haun or Houn, depending on which sleeve notes you read!) played some guitar on the Yes album "Union" and the Jon & Vangelis album "Page Of Life" (especially on the track, "Is It Love?"), the Kitaro/ Jon Anderson album "Dream", and I THINK he was with Air Supply for a while.....

I've got flyers left after the REO show, and now I'm wondering where I can distribute the rest. I've put loads up at work, but the only gigs I've got coming up before Firefest are Alan Parsons the week after next (but that's over in Amsterdam), or Fish who's playing at the Exeter Arts Centre. I might try that, but I know those proggy types of old. They can be really sniffy about anything that's n

This'll be good, we need to hear more about wombats on the radio! Unfortunately I'm away this weekend. Any chance that Steve and Andrew can arrange to have this uploaded to MR-X?

There's the 2005 remaster of Aina's "Living In A Boys World" (1988). Great female hi-tech AOR. (Samples at http://www.mtm-music.com/start.php )

Told you! Also, Geoff Dugmore's (the drummer from "Brothers") previous band was "The Europeans", which is probably most famous for being Steve Hogarth's pre-Marillion band.

I was surfing the web last night and came across a website dedicated to Brian Spence. They've put most of his deleted albums on the site available for free download, including his 1986 album, "Brothers", which I thought was a great AOR album, and deserved to be huge at the time. There's also tons of promotional material, and links to Brian's regular gig dates in and around London....

Couldn't agree more. There are those of us who jump at the chance of getting to a festival like this, but as Daren says, there's an apathy out there that's hard to fight against. Feel really sorry for Daren.

It looked like plasma was going to win out 2 years ago, as LCD has problems with contrast and poor response times. Looks like they've fixed that though, as I've got a new Samsung HD LCD with 15000:1 contrast ratio, and 8ms response time. It's excellent! Another big reason why you're starting to see more LCDs than plasmas in the shops now is the power consumption. Plasmas suck more power than bot

And of course he's been singing on the live tour of Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds", reprising his role from the original album.

Yeah, "I Need Your Love" from Dangerous Games is a track I keep coming back to again and again. If Andrew hadn't put it on MR-X a few months ago, I might never have been aware of it. Thanks Andy!

That's a great double header! Seeing Alan Parsons in the UK is like waiting for Halley's Comet, but there's a gig in Amsterdam on September 15th at the Paradiso, which I'll definitely have to get myself along to. Anyone know what it's like? (the Paradiso that is, not Amsterdam....)
