It was a great interview Malcolm. It was a long 'un, and covered all of Doug's career, with a few of his early tracks played, as well as Whitesnake (remember that the show is repeated midweek - check the schedule page over at ARFM....)

"We could still be warming from the last ice age for all we know. " This argument relies on an implicit assumption that there is a particular climatic baseline to which the earth inexorably returns -- and thus that a period of globally lower temperatures will inevitably be followed by a rise in temperatures. What is the scientific basis for that assumption? There is no evidence of suc

"With all due respect, it seems your company has a reputation for exaggerating data sometimes by as much as 40%." Got a link for that please Mitch? I'd like to have a look. Oh, also we're government, not a company (equivalent to NOAA - "National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration" in the US)

Hi Mitch, 100 years is quite long enough to see trends in climate data, but 10 years isn't in this case. That's because we compare temperature trends to a 30 year average (1961-1990) which averages out any fluctuations that can occur on a yearly basis. I think the point David Parker was making is that because ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) is like a sine curve in the temperature data that

Actually Daredevil, Senator McCain proposed a climate change bill, so I think you'll be disappointed! Actually, we were very impressed with "An Inconvenient Truth". The science seems spot on to me, using as it did established peer reviewed papers to drive home its main points. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for "The Great Global Warming Swindle" by the filmmaker Marti

I'm tryin', I'm tryin'! But actually, you're wrong (you knew I was going to say that, didn't you?!) The actual worldwide observation datasets collated from hundreds of land and sea stations, show dramatic overall warming since 1975. I don't know of any "social scientists" who feed our computer models with data! We might ask them what they were doing here! Probably the best place to s

Hi Mitch, I worked in climate change research here in the UK (Hadley Centre) in the early 90s (still work at the UK Met Office), and I have to say you're wrong about the Earth cooling in the past 10 years. Actually, the 17 warmest recorded years have all occured in the past 20. To be honest though, I have enough of trying to convince sceptics about global warming on other boards, and I'm a bit

Not to get drawn into this, but this discussion reminds me of an old Peter Cook sketch, which went something like, "In America, the Republicans are the equivalent of our Conservative Party, whereas the Democrats..... are the equivalent of our Conservative Party". Blimey, if Fox News reckon Obama is a Marxist, that must make me, well.....something to the left of a Marxist anyway....

Hey all, ARFM have now put up all the weekend backstage Firefest band interviews with Steve on the website (download section). Ted Poley is hilarious as usual! They're free, but as mentioned on the page, if you like 'em, why not donate £1/ $1 to help keep ARFM on the air? http://www.arfm.co.uk

Niv, I can beat that! Ever had the nightmare when you've staked out your place at the stage and you just know that someone a full foot taller than you with big hair that adds another six inches to the left and right of his head, will suddenly materialise in front of you just before the band comes on stage? Well, that happened to me.....but the thing is, it happened throughout the weekend, and it

Thank you so much Kieran, Bruce, Phil and Sue, Tony, Steve and everyone else who organised such a fantastic weekend! I wasn't able to say thanks to any of you in person - I didn't want to bother you because you all looked so busy! Holding the festival over 2 days meant a LOT of hard work for all involved, but gave me so many great memories, it's hard to pick out the highlights. I really hope th

Similar thoughts to mine Andy. I have to say, and from speaking to people around me, they felt the same, White Sister were just awesome! I thought they might have had problems, after the amazing reaction the crowd gave Mitch Malloy beforehand (who was also fantastic), but WS just took over. Must get the DVD. Danger Danger were the other highlight for me on Sunday. You know what you're getting,

Tommy, that's terrible!!!! Seriously though, it'd be fantastic to hear Trevor play the "Yes West" songs live again.... BTW, does anyone have the "Live in LA" CD that came out a couple of years ago? It was Trevor and his band from the LA leg of his US tour for "Can't Look Away" (1989). If so, is it worth getting hold of?

This leads on from Tony's time travel shenanigans below, but just to warn everyone beforehand...... Clocks go back one hour to GMT at 1am on SUNDAY 26TH OCTOBER. Normally this doesn't affect Firefest, as the only things we needed to worry about on the Sunday were hangovers and getting back home, but as we have a full day of musical combos on Sunday this time out, I can see people getting caught

Mitch, What did you think of "Talk" by Yes (1994)? Produced completely on solid-state by Trevor Rabin, to me it was 90125 for the 90's (pity so few people got to hear it, due to Phil Carson's 'Victory Records' collapsing soon after....) Darren

Ah! Wait till you hear "Mr. Time" from "Try Anything Once" Niv. Haunting stuff. You didn't like the pre-82 APP albums as much though? It's funny, because that's about the time his concept albums became "looser", so I guess you have to hear the tracks from albums like "I Robot", "Tales of Mystery & Imagination" and "Pyramid" in the co
