Thanks alaskaman! The debut is mildly hard rock in places - used to play it a lot. Don't mind a nice proggy slant either (my last gig was Transatlantic a month ago). No idea what John Payne sounds like though so I'll check that out carefully. Based on your recommendation I'm off to take a listen to XXX.

Love it! Don't Fall Asleep by Magnum, that is. But.... I hear a little bit of ROD STEWART in Bob's voice at times in this track! :O Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.... :)

Wow. A quite beautiful song. And the parts of the video that aren't focused on a human being are pretty nice as well. So, for someone like me who knows zero about the last 20 years or so of Asia's music, what albums of theirs should I go for (bearing in mind I like this new song)? Thanks!

Rock Art is the only (pre and post split) Magnum album that, as a whole, I don't love. It still contains a couple of great songs, and also an absolute classic (On Christmas Day) but its overall impact is that of a bored Pub AOR band going through the motions. Thankfully Tony got that out of his system via Hard Rain and then reformed the band, coming up with a sequence of increasingly fantastic w

Oh dear. On first listen, Too Many Clowns (the new Magnum track) sounds like a reject from Rock Art. That may make some people happy, but not me! No worries though - I have already pre-ordered the new album and will give it the best of British-American.

Can't remember if I have Bottle Rocket, but I am pretty sure that you won't be able to accuse Almost Home of "delving deep into the alternative and grunge genre..." (Wiki quote). I don't necessarily mind music that does such a thing, and sometimes don't notice it when it does, but Almost Home sounds pretty melodic and metallic rather than alternative and grungy to me. In fact there a

It is a good album with some great moments. As long as nobody expects Fire & Love II then most people should be happy with the result - even after the very long wait!

Well, I like it - and am looking forward to hearing it in context with the rest of the album. And, I already have my tickets to see the band live for the first time next February! :D

I've been a Magnum fan since I was 16 (1988). There is only one album of theirs that I don't like (Rock Art) and even that contains an all time classic song (On Christmas Day). For a beginner, I would recommend Kingdom Of Madness (The debut album, with some breathtaking moments) On A Storyteller's Night (Perhaps most often selected as fan favorite) The Visitation OR On The 13th Day (Absolute

Hammer To Fall Not really very familiar with Queen, but heard most of their songs years ago because a friend was a big fan. Hammer To Fall has always been miles ahead of anything else I've heard by them - not because it's their only good song though. It is simply one of my all time favorite songs. Absolutely incredible piece of music.

Too Long A Soldier is one of my favorite songs by anyone, ever. So you'd better throw that onto your list, or else. ;) I also love Cerebral Man from WAID. Absolutely stunning album, all the way through.

Good gravy, this is good! But I'm kinda nuts, cos I'm a Magnum fan (whom this sort of reminds me of with those huge chunky riffs)! Insanely melodic! Is the rest of the album like this? I'm going to go find some more samples....

Wonderful song. Made me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dPJQ8Jve1E A warning for those who are offended by overtly Christian lyrics - you will be offended by this song. :)

Windows Of Heaven WAS certainly my favorite JE solo album, but I think OMWTTS checks a few more of my personal boxes. It is a lot more powerful musically than his other solo efforts, and the songwriting overall is as strong if not stronger than on WOH. All, of course, in my personal opinion. But I AM right. :P

Loving it here as well. I would put it at the top of his mostly excellent solo albums, but agree that Revolution Of Mind is even better! Although a few more listens are called for before I can make a final determination about that.

Resurrecting this thread to say going to see these guys in Milwaukee (co headlining with Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash) on June 28th! Go to their FB page and like it to listen to a 70 minute acoustic show from their 40th anniversary. Great way to spend an hour or so.

I went to LRGS for a couple of years before we moved away from the area (to Harrogate, Yorkshire - of all places for a Lancastrian to end up!) LRGS in the '80s was not my kind of place. Not many happy memories of my school days, sadly.

(as per usual, I forgot to check that I was replying to the original message rather than to someone else's response) This right here is the overriding reason I don't listen to much if any of the stuff that mr.com seems to focus on. That being said, I really don't mind lyrics that are cliched or basic, what drives me nuts is the complete lack of imagination most song writers show. How many mill

Sheesh. I thought I'd have some time to decide what to do about this, but it looks like my choices have already been severely limited! Great news - very happy that the big ticket VIP passes have sold so quickly. Perhaps I'll have to go for the Blue, although I highly doubt I'll be able to attend much more than the Friday session. I think I'll wait and see what happens. Hopefully the whole thing w

Apart from a couple of songs, this is one of the most boring, generic albums on the face of the planet. And I'm a Magnum fan! ;) Has anyone mentioned Heartland's debut yet?
