Gonna be nice to hear That Holy Touch and Just Like January with proper drums. Great songs though. Agree about Immigrant Son, one of my favourite Magnum tunes.

Sappy as in those love ballads that makes your entire body cringe with lazy rhymes, terrible metaphors and incredibly cheesy instrumentation.

I'm not against songs about love, just the lazily written ones. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I have noted all of them and will check everything out :)

I love melodic rock but I have one big problem: Many of the supposedly awesome bands has atrocious lyrics I just can't stand. AT ALL. Cheesy, sappy ballads, hideous attempts at rock lyrics (usually with the world rock in the title) So I ask of you, good people, give me something that isn't just good musically, but also lyrically. Only two bands have stuck with me, and they are the following

What an awful song. And the video too. Hideous lyrics, boring, generic guitar work... no redeeming qualities for me, sorry.

Very good track. Mama remains my favourite Genesis track though. It's superb.

Urgh I despise that cover. Magnum has a certain something which can't be reproduced. I appreciate they tried to make their own version, but the singer is not worthy to polish Bob Catley's shoes and the other musicianship simply doesn't have the elegance of Magnum.

Very excited for this. Obviously looking forward to the new songs, but also to hear how the re-recordings will sound, arrangement-wise!

I do not mind autotune when it is subtle. If you put autotune on a really good vocalist, often you can barely tell it is being used.

Not a very subtle nod to Queen either lol, "borrowed" stuff from several Queen songs. I just can't get into Def Leppard at all... I think they are absolutely awful. Each to their own.

RIP. A vital part of the E Street Man and he has done many immortal contributions to the song catalogue and live performances of Bruce Springsteen. Wonder what they'll do now, if they'll get another saxophonist.

Queen. Never repeating themselves, constantly trying new things. Can't think of any other rock band with such a diverse catalogue of songs.

That's because Chinese Democracy is a brilliant record. This though... jesus christ. The first song Got It Bad is one of the worst I have ever heard. Atrocious lyrics, string samples from a toy synth... AWFUL IN EVERY WAY

Freddie Mercury. He had everything. Axl Rose is also absolutely brilliant.

I simply can not stand Def Leppard. It blows my mind how they can be so popular.

As for a voice and a piano, this performance by Elton John has always been a favourite of mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFJ2YrztYUg&feature=related Daniel, live at Inside The Actor's Studio, with a small story from an audience member before it. Simply stunning.

Speaking of live albums, now they should NEVER be autotuned. Hell I'll take an overdub or two but autotuned live albums sound ridicilous. I heard a John Mayer live album a while back and there was autotune all over the place. Not cool!

What Marc said. If you have a good enough singer who can hit the notes, a subtle autotune effect will go completely unnoticed.
