...if u r hiring a car, take the "49 Mile Scenic Drive". It's well signposted and easy to follow and basically gives u a whistle stop tour of everything u need to see! One thing u must do is go and stand on the cliffs over the other side of the Golden Gate looking back towards the city. If it's a clear day, it is one of the most breathtaking vistas u will ever see!
