being a non native speaker in english and a songwriter, the matter of cheesy lyrics always bothers me a lot....i feel that albeit cheesy you can get away with a lot more int he english language than you can, say with german....cheesy lyrics are pretty much always classified as "Schlager" and therefore a set up to be ridiculed by the public.... one argument always coming up is that

Adolfo....i heard of Deafheaven once....actually its not THAT bad, i like the atmosphere they build up, but, as always, as soon as it gets too black metal-ly i tune out....;) Captain; sometimes if i am in the mood for punk rock i have a random look at spottily and a while agao i discovered" Secret Hate".....they are crap too, but if it fits my mood i happen to enjoy that kind of

I REALLY don't want to stir any shit, its definitely not my intention; BUT: ".... the major labels, who are in serious financial trouble right now and are only still alive due to their back catalogs of AOR music, are watching and if this tour does take off and make money, what kind of music do you think they're going to be putting their big budgets into? They are not known for their origi

With Thayil its not so much what he plays, but how......there´s something in his sound and vibrato that always makes me go" what? you really MEAN that?..."...i know i don't make sense, but i guess its just a personal dislike! ;p.....

Btw: isnt temple of the dig a GREAT record? Times of trouble...what a tune! While i reread the thread it dawned on me what great guitar work all These Bands displayed .. but does anyone agree that soundgarden is a steange case? Kim thayil is the most Interesting one for me playing wise, still his playing just oozes Bad taste for me....maybe i am contradicting myself here, but he's the reason so

Yes, that´s true! But then again, as Cobain, he expressed HIMSELF and his feelings via his music....albeit on the highest level musically....this doesn't take away from the fact that he didn't reach the masses with his playing, simply because they couldn't relate to him.......they could however to, say, Clapton, to stick with a better analogy to Becker... it´s not who´s better or not, it´s wh

Speaking of Bob Dylan: Ever heard that 3CD cover album from a few years back? Various artists, which are all superior musicians to him cover his songs and these performances really make them shine.....if comparers to his original versions, at times, it really seems that his are by far inferior on the first listen/if you don't like his mumbling,etc....but then again he WROTE these things, it´s ju

Yes Perry and Huff ARE superior musicians....but that doesn't mean that they would be able to write like Nirvana....play, yes,; (maybe not even play, as the charm in Nirvana is its imperfection!) recreate that sound, yes; but what i think you mistake here is the ability to come up with that stuff.... Steve Perry wouldn't write a Nirvana song, because its just not what he likes/liked doing..... t

To say Cobain was talentless is silly.....a band that writes stuff like, say, "I hate kissing you goodbye" can be called talentless.... There´s a lot more honesty in something like Heart shaped box than in that Tuff song...Still i´d take Tuff over nirvana anytime of the day, as i just happens to like that style.... No need to defend/degrade grunge or AOR/Glam, as both had their tim

"and i don't sit at home digging Nirvana all day long saying "this is real" etc haha" lol that made me laugh! ;) The thing with AOR vs Grunge for me always comes down to one fact which has nothing to do with the music itself: Imagewise Grunge works without the glitz and the glitter, the 30000 people stadiums or the million dollar budget when recording......but without th
