The "re-recorded" songs are actually just remixed. Neither Jack nor Kelly still have the voice to pull it off this perfectly. I am not sure why some reviews, including from the label, call them "re-recorded". Other reviews correctly use the term "remixed." It's clear they aren't re-recorded nor should they try. There are a couple of early videos from that time period including one labeled Live Blues in 1993 with guest appearance by BB King. But they are VHS and Laserdisc only. I don't see any official re-release on DVD or Blu- Ray. Finally going to see this 1979 album reissued and remastered on CD. And by Iconoclassic Records, the same label that recently reissued "Art In America". They did a wonderful job remastering that album. I have fond memories of "Children Of The Sun", especially the later remixed LP from 1987. Still have it on vinyl. Like you I hated the production on my original American released CD. Then I heard the Japanese remaster. Oh my Lord, what a big difference. The old release was dumped on a CD with no mastering. So yeah, it sounds thin and weak. The Japanese release (which is every Japanese release) since at least 2010 is much better. It's still in fourth or fifth place among their first five albums but

Not familiar with a remixed Private Eyes. There were demos released as well as that Teaser Redux ... pieced together with alternate takes. That album was very confusing and subpar compared to the original album.

A couple of decades ago, the Official Tommy Bolin Archives from his brother, released over 20 albums of demos, live jams, Deep Purple writing sessions, acoustic and solo performances. Some of 5he more recent compilations you mentioned have some of that material, but far from all of it. Being a crazy fan and collector I bought all of them, even interview CDs.

The original 1992 release was mastered by Bob Ludwig and still sounds great today. Bob was (and still is) one of the preeminent CD mastering engineers.
