Glad that you feel that way, Irwin. For me it doesn't work at all without AVH and EVH. Satch sounds so stiff, so it's hard going. And I'm still a Satch fan (when he's doing his own stuff).

Sure is cracking. It's tough for artists when they leave the mothership, Hagar included. This is why he has been moving between projects, ultimately landing on a VH themed tour, unfortunately without the swagger of AVH and EVH. Because it's not VH.

Those are some excellent choices. What I was wondering is if there is any other singer out there who was able to layer his vocals in such a distinctive way as Perry on Raised on Radio? Probably not, since no one sounds like him, but I would be curious to know if somebody came close. Many of the choices here are great singers with great voices, but they're not doing the layering to the same extent

My vote would probably have to go to Mr. Perry for his work on Raised on Radio. The layering of his own vocals is in a class of its own and I can't think of any other singer who has been able to achieve that wall of sound effect quite like he did. How would you vote?

They're desperately trying to be contemporary and have since the reunion. Teaming up with the hip producer at the time (Dave Cobb, Klas Åhlund etc). Being followers instead of leaders. Joey's vocals used to be their secret weapon. His voice has changed though, so now it takes more of a backseat with the end result being more anonymous. I think this is a patchwork to be honest. A 90s sounding riff, effects on Joey's vocals, a "comedown" with Joey's vocal in focus towards the end a la Walk this Earth and then a random Norum solo thrown in for good measure, not necessarily adding to the song. Add a compressed mix to the picture and it's very hard to get excited. Very few modern productions breathe and it's making it hard

The 9 shows he's doing in the US this summer (outside of the Vegas residency) seem to be selling well. My point is that he is semi retired and has been for the last 20 years. Nothing wrong with that. He clearly doesn't need the money. But there's a reason half of the set he's playing is VH. I can't drive 55 and Bad Motor Scooter won't fill any arenas.

Averaging 29 shows per year for the last 20 years is a very light schedule and an indication of the struggle most artists face when leaving the mothership (VH in Sammy’s case).
