Back in 1988 I didn't know EJ , but I just bought a record from my old-time favorite guitar player, being Steve Morse. It was a record called Stand Up, featuring players like EJ, Peter Frampton, and other Dregs alumni.
I was thinking "these players must be monsters to be featured along Steve Morse in his record" (not knowing how music business worked in my early adolescence innocence)
I bought Ah Via Musicom, which I regard as EJ's best record. Flawless, with the infamous Cliffs of Dover riff, and a great composition like Trademark along the others.
When Venus Isle came out, I immediately bought it and I regard it as another masterpiece, ethereal, great tone, great compositions (Manhattan and East Wes my favorites among the bunch)
What came after are good records, IMHO not at the same level, but not a bad track. Most of them feature songs that are his style, but too similar to what he did in his past.
A great player. The ToneMeister himself, Eric Johnson
Cheers
