Re: O/T Favorite TV series

I enjoyed the first couple of series of Being Human too. Not great but fairly entertaining. I gave up in the end though because it did start getting overly melodramatic and was always an inferior version of the brilliantly batshit True Blood.
Didn't see The Fades, although I heard good things about it and have been keeping an eye out for repeats - which in this digital age are a given.
British TV just doesn't really grip me these days. New dramas always get lauded, so I watch them but they're never really compelling or inspired. I always feel like I've seen the same thing over and over again, and when the shows do possess genuine imagination they never seem to have the budget to back it up or the execution is just clumsy and stultified. And when they are intelligent, gripping and risky they get cancelled because audiences don't want to have to think when there's the X Factor to watch! In fairness that's the same in America too. But I also prefer watching European TV shows like The Killing, Spiral, Romanzo Criminale as they just have much more about them, a more dynamic sense of storytelling and brilliantly executed twists and turns. Not to mention a mastery of tension. Actually, a did forget Messiah - now that was a good drama. Bloody terrifying too.
Don't really understand how American TV is chasing it's own tail though?
