melodic rock car number plates

Long time , no post but seeing as I made a purchase today , I thought it might be interesting to see how others have gone about getting number plates related to their favourite band.
Here in my state (of Australia) you can get all sorts of personalised number plates since they opened it up a few years ago and it's a nice revenue raiser for the government. However the original "number only" series of 1 to 285,000 issued during the 1930's are quite rare. obviously the lower the number (or interesting sequence etc....) the more valuable.
A number of them have been returned to the governing body over the years as cars have been deregistered but since the mid 80's they have trickled those that were returned back onto the market via auction with "ownership rights". That is , they're yours as long as you like, even if your current car is deregistered (you don't even have to have it on a car). A plate in the single digits would go for $1 million + and they have performed well as investments.
Anyhow............after that intro it's pretty clear that any of those original "number only" plates comes up very rarely and tend to be strongly held. I had no intention of buying this weekend butsaw some up for auction this weekend and as an avid fan and collector of all things Van Halen I couldn't go past..........5150. Unfortunately for me it has above average value just becuase of its rarity as the 5150th plate ever but to a VH fan , especially when added to a pretty extensive VH memorabilia collection , I think it was a very nice pickup and something that can never be duplicated.
Any other cool number plate stories?
