Bassier mixes sound better on IPod than those with more treble end. Of course a band will test out mixes of their new recordings on as many players as possible and go back to tweak accordingly.

Good examples "GTBB" by Whitesnake sounds very bassy on CD but superb on I Pod whilst its completely vice versa for Unruly Child, awesome CD but almost unlistenable on IPod.

Journey's Revelation and album before it suddenly have bigger, sharper drums on IPod, yet were both criticised for woofy mixes on CD.

The best album sound I've heard so far for both formats is "Comes & Goes" by Default. Getting a good distorted guitar sound to play well on both formats isn't as easy as it sounds. Cleaner sounding music such as R&B, Pop etc can fill out sound in any format with keys and specifically designed drum effects but layering the guitars to work both ways is becoming a more exact skill and if CDs are dying out in the wider markets, then mixes will follow the mainstream requirements.
