Since there were 22.1 million iPods sold in 2010 and digital sales going through the roof then it's possible that some artists/labels are using the MP3 as a benchmark for their music.
Labels see the CD as a dying option and therefore everything will be digital in 5 years.
The quality of the MP3 is far lower than the WAV and needs more compression, so why wouldn't they taylor their output to fill the largest market.
Try listening to Forevermore on an ipod, the sound is better than on the cd.....work that out einstein!
