I still remember the first time I heard a Nuge tune. It was "Stranglehold." My best friend and I burst out laughing, and laughed until we hurt. Listening to the track nowadays, and looking back, I'm not totally sure why. I think I figured the singer's voice sounded thin and wimpy, which was not at all what I expected, looking at Terrible Ted himself. I guess maybe I was expecting some gruff vocalist with a raspy voice and an out of control sound. Anyhow, I wrote them off immediately. I now quite like da Nuge - at least in semi-small doses.
As for the Stones and Led Zep, I'm not a huge fan of either. I think I've pretty much liked the Stones since I first started hearing their stuff on the radio. But I'm not a "big fan" by any stretch of the imagination. I definitely prefer the Beatles and the Who. Led Zep somehow never did it for me. I can't say why. Their overall sound, hard rock with crunchy guitars, thunderous drumming, and wailing vocals is right up my alley. Yet somehow their music just never did much for me. I do enjoy some tracks, but that's as far as it goes. I loved "All of My Love" from the time I first heard it on the radio.
Regarding some of the other artists mentioned by others, I've been a huge Tom Petty, April Wine, and Rush fan since first hearing them. But I despise Bob Dylan's voice. It grates, big-time.
