The only jewel case ones that were CD-R's were the very first batch available from Amazon.com. This was because they were manufacturing them in-house, and they had an exclusive early release of the album before it was officially in all stores.
The ones that came directly from the band at the same time (a month before being released to stores) were 100% legit regular CD's. Also, because of so many complaints, Amazon ordered CD's directly from the band, and offered to replace copies for anyone who wasn't happy with the in-house produced versions.
The "V-pack" (or different spin on the traditional Digi-pack) version is what was issued to all stores when the album was "officially" released. There are no lyrics in that version, and the inside artwork is the same with the exception of being sepia tone colored, rather than plain black & white, and also in the way it's presented in a fold out package, rather than being a traditional booklet. The CD artwork is exactly the same, too.
As for the music of album, itself, F-ing love it! Yet another classic album from one of my favorite bands. They may have mellowed a little with time, but they've also matured quite nicely, too.
