Sorry, but Rusty Cooley is one of the biggest guitar wankers on the planet (not, unlike Petrucci, not pleasant to listen to) so I don't know how you can advocate Outworld over DT for supposedly being too self-indulgent.

People need to just get over it and accept that DT are the kings of prog metal. None of the bands you list would even exist if it wasn't for Dream Theater and all (try to) copy them to one agree or another. Only none of them can hold a candle to the original.
