"Maybe if the labels did send out more promo's, they would sell more than 800-1000 copies."
With all the online magazines and sites they definately do send out more these days than at times when an average AOR album sold 5000+ copies. Yet the sales numbers are going downhill.
Now it's your turn again ....
I think most of the Melodic Rock people keep living in a dream world. Thunder might sell 5 or 10 more copies with an additional review, but all in all this will not make up the overall decrease in sales with each new album - that's what almost EVERY band in the music biz is suffering from and that's what makes the industry hyperventilate.
I also think the networks and promotional strategies these days are far more efficient than they used to be 10 or 20 years ago. Yet the result is not what you would expect.
The CD itself will disappear in the not too far future and we can either keep trying to prevent that only to see ourselves going down together with the industry or we can try to make us ready for the next generation of music distribution.
