Thinny
agreed, they are only the UK sales (that's all I deal in with our stuff) and to be honest, they are still impressive units.
I know all too well that the UK is a tough market to break bands out of their 'comfort zone', saleswise.
I was in no way comparing Thunder's sales potential to Coldplay or Robbie's, rather trying to illustrate the fact that EMI couldn't give two monkey's f***s about bands like Thunder, regardless of the potential revenue they can generate.
When I posted Thunder's figures (again I have no 'beef' with them personally or Townsends) it was purely because they were the band in the frame. Hats off to them for keeping a healthy career going.
I also agree there are many, many acts on majors that don't sell a fraction of the units Thunder shift, maybe some of those bands need to look at the business model created here (WAP etc...) and forget about signing the 'big deal' that, as we all know, rarely recoups the advance let alone any marketing/tour support etc..., the label pays out.
There are other ways...
