Good point DJ, but, just from my point, say if Thunder sent me a copy of their new CD or live DVD. That would be potentially 150,000 people a month that would see a review of it that wouldn't have otherwise seen it or maybe even known about it.
I'm not looking for freebies, I love this music and want to do what little bit I can to keep it's profile going. I don't care if I get a CDR, I'm just interested in the music and maybe my passion for that music coming across in a review and getting some people to check out a CD they otherwise might not have. Of course, there's always the danger that if you slag off a particular release, they just remove you from their list anyway!
Maybe if the labels did send out more promo's, they would sell more than 800-1000 copies. We need the labels, the labels need us, (more than they want to admit) and we should all work together to do the best we can to promote the music we love. Fans of this music are amongst the most passionate and loyal that I know! If they don't know about a particular release, they are never going to buy it.
Still, a subject that will no doubt rumble on like this for years to come!
