Look, if they were releasing innovative metal and not getting record sales then I'd be a little more sympathetic.
But the fact is they have been desperately trying to be an adult contemporary act for the last 18 years (only God knows why). So when radio/casual fans don't touch these songs, it means the music isn't any good. You may call it subjective, but it is reinforced by the opinions of millions and the industry.
Die hard fans will like the records regardless. I happen to like a lot some of the records they put out recently. But my point is it's not really Def Leppard -- just a hollow shell of a band that was once great.
I guess Clark meant way more to the band, both in sound and content, than most people believed.
