My first real exposure to rock music came through Queen around '79 when some kid brought in a copy of 'The Game' to play in class. I spent a good deal of the next two or three years worshipping Brian May and pursuading the parents to buy up any and all of the Queen albums they could afford. Queen I - Shear Heart Attack hardly ever left my record deck.
A couple of years later as an innocent 12 year old I was dragged along, as an afterthought, to see Motorhead at Newcastle City Hall and after a show with my head stuck right next to the bass bins and no hearing for a fortnight I was hooked and the musical path of my life was decided at that moment.
I even got banned from some year end school photo as my hair was too long and I was wearing those godawful white & black striped lycra trousers that were popular at the time...
Cheers
Steve
