Idols

Just to try and get a bit of light rtelief on the board for a little while.
Who did you idolise as a young un? (music wise)
On first getting into rock as a nerdy 12 year old (not strictly true as I remmeber my dad playing lots of glam rock to me as a kid..predominantly Slade and Sweet) my early heroes were the obvious Rainbow, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden bands.
My constant lp of constant play was Axe Attack volume one. You have to remember I was a rock virgin and didn't have a clue who Ted Nugent or Frank Marino were.
Of course I'd heard of UFO but that was just Doctor Doctor, until a friend of mine played me Strangers in the Night....and that was it.
I rushed out with my hard earned money (helping my uncle out on a milk round) and bought Strangers and No Place to Run...I was hooked. I then bought the first MSG album and my bedroom became a shrine to all things Mogg, Way and Schenker.
My worshipping knew no boundaries, anyone even daring to suggest there were better bands/guitarist would be met with either a sneer or that glower that teenagers do so well. I bugged friends for years with my 'obsession' (geddit) and even to this day I count UFO as the single biggest musical influence on my life.
I seem to remember being about 14 years old and my entire bedroom was covered in posters of Schenker and UFO. My record collection was almost entirely made up of UFO/Schenker albums. My proudest moment at school was giving a 30 minute talk on the life of Michael Schenker and my research and presentation must have been good as even the non rock types seemed enthralled by my tales and the questions just kept a coming.
So there you go....thats my confession to an obsession...LOL
