This American would say friend.

My country seems very divided to me right now.

The conservatives are in power and things domestically seem to be getting worse all the time.

The worst part is that you can't even seem to say anything bad about the current administration without a consevative trying to make you sound unpatiotic, and bring up the war in Iraq. It's like that's all our country is about right now.

And you are correct in saying America can not keep playing the WWII card. It more about our current actions.
