I'm mostly talking about people using AI to make music and calling themselves musicians. Or musicians using AI to make music and calling it "music."

Sure, if someone wants to shortcut making an album cover or logo because it's just too hard to find a cool picture on a stock site or grab your $1500 pocket phone camera to take some shots yourself, that's lazy but it's to be expected.

Just don’t call yourself a photographer or graphic designer.

But what's the difference between my 12 year old kid, my 75 year old mom, or a band getting into an AI program and using a GPT to write lyrics to a song and then drop it into Suno and come out with a finished track?

The output is the same. But the difference is only one of them calls themselves a musician.

There's no excuse to not learning how to play an intstrument, sing, and record a song. Telling a computer to identify patterns and create a song based on hooks and verses it scrapes from the charts is not creating music.

Comparing AI to a "technology" like electric guitars or even sampling keyboards is totally apples and oranges.

Again, what kind of "music" can only be created by using AI the way hard rock can only be created with amplified guitars?

Even a rap group like De La Soul, whom I consider genius, built songs out of samples but created entirely new works of art with its own hooks and verses and structures... Listen to "Me Myself and I" and you don't hear the samples that formed the foundation to that song, you hear that amazing hook, "It's just me myself and I..."

What is the equivalent to AI?
