Completely missed his point.
Question: How much do you imagine a professional studio, engineer, producer, photographer, wardrobe, makeup, graphic designer, CD/vinyl pressing, printing, shrink-wrapping, packing/shipping and distribution costs?
To Jason's point, there used to be an ecosystem that covered all those costs on the front end so artists could focus on making the music. Technology evolved and many of those things can be done "in-house" by an artist, but they still cost money. Unless the artist is a fully functioning production house themselves, they have to outsource a lot of this stuff still. So, YES, they are trying to save money. Everyone, everywhere, at all times is trying to save money. So, if some young startup saves money by using an AI "album cover" for his single, you think he's somehow ripping you off if he charges $1 for his song?
AI, like anything else, can be and is being abused by profiteers producing completely fake shit for clicks and plays. If anything, this will cause a backlash, IMO, and make actual artists want to use it less. Time will tell.
But, like has been stated, using AI to flesh out a demo, or to create a piece of clipart for your Bandcamp page, in the name of trying to push your actual creative ideas in music forward, then do what you have to do.
