I didn't find Van Halen, particularly in the 90's, to be that huge in the UK. We were all Britpop and Grunge by the 90's and even supporting Bon Jovi at Wembley in '95, (I was there), they really only attracted either older guys or EVH following guitar nerds.
They didn't bridge the generational gap much in the UK. Unlike Bon Jovi, who managed some very commercial songs plus JBJ's girl magnetising smile, had a Wembley crowd eating out of their hands.
VH to me and my peers was basically 'Jump' with 'Why Can't This Be Love' managing to raise a bit of interest on the fumes of 'Jump'. But that was as a kid. I was only a fan later because I was a (very uncool to my friends in the early 90's) lead guitarist so followed EVH.. And funnily enough Joe Satriani.
I don't believe Hagar has any significant cross-generational interest in the UK and Satriani is just for UK guitar nerds (I say that playfully) though lead guitar is regaining popularity so he's getting a bit more attention these days.
So Hagar not attracting big crowds in the UK? Who on earth thought that he would?
