When your singer quits you need saving. There aren't many bands that can survive switching singers, especially when you had an iconic singer like DLR. On top of that Ed and Al were constantly drunk and had no direction. Without someone to step in and take charge the band was over after DLR. That's why Sammy brought in Ed Leffler to manage too.So yeah, I'd say he saved the band at that point.
