That was my take too. I read Roth's once a very long time ago now, but I remeber thinking that while Roth is clearly a very intellegnet guy, it was also clear he was bordering on insane. Sammy came across as much more relatable, an astute business man, at the time biterlly upset with his treatment by the brothers.
