They're desperately trying to be contemporary and have since the reunion. Teaming up with the hip producer at the time (Dave Cobb, Klas Åhlund etc). Being followers instead of leaders.
Joey's vocals used to be their secret weapon. His voice has changed though, so now it takes more of a backseat with the end result being more anonymous.
Inviting Peter Stormare, Tobias Forge and Michael Akerfeldt is not going to help them write more memorable songs. Which have been few and far between since the reunion.
