I think a lot of it is what generation you grew up in. I wasn't listening to a lot of music until the early- to mid- 80's so my first exposure to the band was 1984. I thought Jump was way overplayed and I also found Diamond Dave's antics a little annoying, while still acknowledging he was a great showman.

Van Hagar took it to a new level just as I was getting increasingly interested in this kind of music, so Van Halen 2.0 gets my vote.

That said, for those who were around since the debut, I can definitely understand the preference of the Roth albums.
