I enjoyed that version. Think it lent itself quite well for that kind of treatment. I’d say if it was released in this version originally (only), say ending Hysteria, it would still be percieved as a classic.
Having Said that, am I keen to hear it again? Not so much. Am I keen to hear a full album of remakes like this one? Not really. Would be to hear the original vocals in this context. Agreed that was interesting.
How many remakes, rerecordings, re-compilations, live versions etc can one get away with releasing of ones classics?(Yes, I’m looking at you DC. The 2019 remix of Slide it in blew my mind though.)
