A new box set is always going to have a modern day remaster or remix as a partial reason why people should buy what they have over again. In addition to the other goodies like extra songs (6 in this case), demos, live stuff, etc.
Fair enough that the album doesn't work for you, but it is one of final great productions before the loudness wars started and other issues that have plagued album productions to this day.
