Re: Opinions about song length??

The length of a song only bothers me if:
A track is too short and is over before it gets going. As Heretic say's the new Styx album could do with some of the songs (at least half in my opinion) are too short.
As a prog lover, I have no problem listening to epic tracks and have always liked long songs.
Back in the 70's I bought Utopia's debut and that includes a track called 'The Icon' which lasts half an hour and took up a whole side of the album. It's brilliant. It was amazing when it came out on cd because it was like listening to a new song as the limitations of vinyl hid a lot of the music and the cd brought it out.
If a song drags on repeating a phrase over and over, that can be annoying whether it's a short or long track, repetition grates.
Good music is good music and it's the quality of the song that matters so an album of 10 3 to 4 minute songs can be great if I'm in the mood for it and a prog album with 20 minute plus tracks can hold my attention too.
