Does any1 like other stringed instruments in their rock besides electric?

I guess in my middle aged brain I have decided that any guitarist that has decided to play other stringed instruments in their repertoire besides the usual lead electric is very intriguing. The reason Metallica and the others in that genre bore me to hell is that the GTR's sound all the same. Throw a banjo or sitar or steel electric or mandolin or lutes or a resonator. I know this can appear very indulgent and pretentious but it makes my brain kick in and say "Hey what is that different sound?" As an example, Warrant did not really stand out to me until I heard "Uncle Tom's Cabin" with the banjo being a featured GTR. Any1 else like or can recommend different types of stringed instruments used in Mel-Rock?
