Technically Phil is a great player, but I fail to see how anyone saw him as a great fit for Bon Jovi. Sambora's sound was very influenced in the blues and Phil has zero blues in his playing. Phil himself has admitted that he struggles to find the emotion in the parts like Sambora did. Phil is a technical player, Sambora is about the feeling. And as others have said Sambora's vocals were a massive part of the bands sound, especially live. A huge part of their signature sound is missing, both in the vocal and guitar parts without Sambora. Anyone that can't hear that is either in denial or has broken ears. Or both...
