Agree it’s about having a recognizable signature playing style, and being an established contributing creative component to the bands sound and image. I think you’re spot on there.

I can’t comment on Phil X because I never liked BonJovi then or now... but with Jon Levin/ Dokken I think you’re contradicting your own point- imo bringing in a guy to emulate the original guy’s playing relegates the “replacement guy” to a placeholder, and not really a contributing creative component to the image the same way either. Doesn’t that just emphasize even more how irreplaceable the original guy was?
