Recent posts about Christian MHR, posts from a few days back about gritty acts from the late '80s and early '90s, and the two very recent ones about War Babies, TKO, and Bad City got me thinking about Bride. This is a Christian MHR act that I don't ever recall being discussed on here before.

In their early years, they played American metal pretty much in the vein of stuff like Riot, Metal Church, Lizzy Borden, etc. (stuff that I always saw as the American answer to Priest, Maiden, Saxon, etc.). Anyway, the band evolved over time, and eventually became very late '80s/early '90s hair metal in their sound and look. They had all of the grit of GnR, Cinderella, Skid Row, Britny Fox, etc. They also featured a singer whose sandpaper delivery, crazy range, and leather lungs could have given pretty much any other metal belter a run for his/her money. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that they didn't sound very much like a Christian band, if that makes any sense (?). They just sounded dirtier, sleazier, bluesier, grimier, and more dangerous than any other Christian MHR act that I ever remember hearing.

I guess I'm just curious as to whether or not there are any fans around these parts. And, for anyone who hasn't heard them, I'd be curious as to what you think.

Their most renowned album is probably 1992's Snakes in the Playground which, back in the day, was described as Christian metal's version of Appetite for Destruction. I'm not sure that I'd go that far, but it did feel like quite a breakthrough for Christian metal. For anyone who tends to avoid Christian MHR or is turned off by it, I'd encourage you to check it out and I suspect that you might be surprised. Here's a link...
