Amazing thing about Joe is that he sounds better from a tone perspective now than he did then. When he came into the band, I really liked that he could write and in particular that he was excellent in writing verse melodies. But I didn't particularly like the tone of his voice, and I actively disliked when it broke on high/hard notes. Still enjoyed that era quite a bit as they covered a lot of ground. But I was missing Bobby and especially the R&B-flavored songs that he did so well (YATFlower, Mama, Waiting For Your Love).
But now, Joe can do it all. He still gets most of the higher notes, and I feel like his general tone is just better than it was. Further, he now does the little soul-singer inflections better, and he just sounds more natural on Bobby-era tunes than he did.
Joseph Williams is remarkable.
