I always wonder how much of that happens on a subconscious level. You hear a melody, a lyric, then at some points it pops back up when you create something. I had that happening with ideas in my days as an ad man. I think it happens a lot with most creative/artistic types, they are basically sponges that soak up everything they see, hear, and read.
