Depends on the intro, a great intro could make the buildup worth it.
That said it's much nonsense presented too, and many unnecessary long ones - in some cases even a letdown when the song which is the worst scenario when speaking about this phenomenon.
But yeah in some cases they annoy me, overall it is to live with although a little annoying now and then - and on progressive releases it is a staple of the genre, so in that regard it is a thing to be recond with.
