I don't think they'd be as successful as they are as a serious band. When you ask most people why they loved 80's hair metal, it's because of outrageous behavior, raunchy lyrics, fun music, cheesy outfits etc. Look at the success of the movie version of The Dirt. That's exactly what SP are giving the people.
