Re: New Stryper "Take it to the cross"

I read this thread last night, but I didn't have it in me to listen to the track until this morning. To be honest, I was a little freaked out...
I'm not at all what I'd consider a huge Stryper fan or anything, but I have really enjoyed their recent output. The Covering is probably my all-time favorite album of cover tunes. I loved their song choice, and I thought they truly did justice to each and every track. The original track on the album entitled "God" is one of their heaviest-ever tracks and, IMHO, a really great song. Fallen is a really good, solid album as well. And No More Hell to Pay is, in my opinion, the absolute best album they've ever done and most definitely my favorite Stryper album. It's one of my favorite metal albums of the last decade. In fact, I'd say it's a nearly perfect album. My only gripe with it is the inclusion of the track "Marching Into Battle." Apparently, the track was written back when they were in their mid-teens, and it absolutely comes off that way. Not so much the verse part of the song, but the chorus is really hard to listen to.
And that's how I feel about "Take it to the Cross." The song is just a great Stryper-style metal track......up to the chorus. And then, yeah, it's bad....really, really, REALLY bad. This is unfortunate, 'cuz with a different chorus, this actually had the potential to be a decent track.
Still, I'm not ready to write off the new album quite yet. I guess time will tell, but, given the quality of the last three Stryper albums, I'm confident that God Damn Evil will be a strong effort as well. I'll just have to skip this track, same as I do with "Marching Into Battle."
